This publication will help you through initial site preparation, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of the Cisco ONS 15104.

This chapter discusses the objectives, audience, organization, and conventions of the
Cisco ONS 15104. For the purpose of this publication, the product will be referred as the
Cisco ONS 15104, the "chassis," or the "regenerator." Many of the translations in the Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information for the Cisco ONS 15104 refer to a "chassis," rather than a specific router or the Cisco ONS 15104.
The person(s) who will install, configure, and maintain the Cisco ONS 15104 must be familiar with basic router configuration practices, and more specifically with Cisco 12000 series routers, so that they can configure the regenerator to system network devices. The person(s) must be familiar with optical and telecommunications networks, and Cisco IOS software and be able to perform software configuration and diagnostic procedures on the regenerator.

The Cisco ONS 15104 does not have field replaceable units (FRUs). In the event of a hardware malfunction, the entire unit will be replaced by Cisco Systems.

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.
