Configuring the Dial-Up
Frame Relay Application

This chapter provides an overview of DAS Dial-Up Frame Relay Configuration, using the DAS Server Shelf Command Line Interface (INS_CLI), and StrataView Plus Map Object, Automatic Number Identification, and Connection Management tools.

These configuration procedures can be performed only after:

All of these preliminary steps have been described in previous chapters.

Configuring the Application

This is essentially a continuation of the process that began with the installation of the DAS Server Shelf and is performed primarily with StrataView Plus at the StrataView Plus Workstation. The configuration can be divided into five general steps:

Step 1 Set up an INS (DAS Server Shelf) object on the network topology map. You use HP OpenView topology map tools at StrataView Plus Workstation, as described in the chapter, Creating a DAS Topology Object with HP OpenView.

Note The DAS processes on the DAS Server Shelf must be turned off when you create the DAS (INS) object.

Step 2 Set parameters for the DAS Server Shelf by using the Command Line Interface (INS CLI) described in the chapter, Understanding the DAS Command Line Interface.

Step 3 Configure the parameters associated with the ISDN ANI. These parameters will apply to the frame-relay PVC for that specific ANI, and are similar to standard Frame Relay Port parameters. The INS ANI Configuration menu is accessed through the StrataView Plus Main Menu. This process is described in the chapter, Configuring Automatic Number Identifiers.

Step 4 Configure Dial-Up connections, using the StrataView Plus Connection Manager. This process is described in the chapter, Configuring Dial-Up Connections.

Step 5 Configure Dial-Backup connections, using the StrataView Plus Connection Manager.

Note This includes "associating" a "normal" mode frame-relay connection with a Dial-Backup connection. This process is described in the chapter,
Configuring Dial-Backup Connections.

Configuring Dial-Up and Dial-Backup connections are similar to adding connections (addcon) in a standard Cisco wide-area frame-relay network; however, they must be configured with the StrataView Plus Connection Manager in the Dial-Up mode.

The following chapter, Dial-Up Frame Relay Operation, provides a quick reference and a summary of many of the procedures used to configure the Dial-Up Frame Relay application.
