Loading DAS Daemon Software on the StrataView Plus Workstation

Loading DAS Daemon Software on the StrataView Plus Workstation

The DAS Daemon software must be loaded on the StrataView Plus Workstation as part of the Dial Access Switching system (DAS Server Shelf and Dial-Up Frame Relay application) installation. This must be performed at the StrataView Plus Workstation and can be performed before or after the DAS Server Shelf is installed at the Cisco wide-area switch.

Note The DAS Server Shelf comes with its DAS software preinstalled. The appendix,
Upgrading DAS Server Shelf Software, contains procedures for reloading DAS Server Shelf software when Cisco provides a software upgrade.

Installing DAS Daemon Software

The following are prerequisites for installing the DAS Daemon software on the StrataView Plus Workstation:

Note The tape containing the DAS Daemon software contains two DAS (INS) Daemon binary files: one for StrataView Plus 8.1, the other for StrataView Plus 8.4. The Release Note for DAS 1.4 describes how to extract the appropriate DAS (INS) Daemon file.
Caution  If the DAS daemon has already been installed on your StrataView Plus Workstation, this procedure should not be performed or you could destroy your existing DAS Dial-Up Frame Relay database.

To install the DAS Daemon software on the StrataView Plus Workstation, follow these steps:

Step 1 Stop StrataView Plus core processes by selecting option 2 of the StrataView Plus menu.

Step 2 Login as user "root" on the StrataView Plus Workstation by entering the following:

Step 3 Insert the DAS (INS) Tape 3 Release 1.4 in the tape drive and slide the latch to the right.

Step 4 On the StrataView Plus Workstation, change directory (cd) to the /usr/users/svplus.

Step 5 Extract the DAS (INS) Daemon files with the command:

This will load a single file daemon.tar in the directory /usr/users/svplus.

Step 6 From the svplus directory untar the file:

This will load the DAS (INS) Daemon software files into the /usr/users/svplus hierarchy.

Step 7 Edit /usr/users/svplus/config/watchdog.conf to add the following line at the bottom of the file (unless it already exists):

Note This command line (insd on . insd) can take two arguments: -p and -x. The -p argument configures the DAS (INS) Daemon software to run with the
multi-service feature of the DAS 1.4 server which increases the dial-up performance. The -x argument allows the AXIS shelf of the BPX Service Node to be used as a local end point. These arguments are described in the README text file which accompanies the DAS (INS) Daemon tar file. The -p or -x arguments should not be used, however, without the direction of Customer Support.

Step 8 Log out from the root account and back into the svplus user account.

Step 9 Execute the following commands:

If the DAS (INS) Daemon software has been correctly installed on the StrataView Plus Workstation, the StrataView Plus main menu will show the INS ANI Configuration option. This appears as item 9 in StrataView Plus 8.1 as shown in Figure 7-1 and as item 8 in StrataView Plus 8.4 as shown in Figure 7-2.
