This guide is for network administrators who are responsible for the installation and operation of internetworking equipment.
It describes how to install, configure, and maintain the Cisco Catalyst 1800 Token Ring switch and includes information that describes the diagnostic tests provided with the software.
The appendixes A through E include general information about Token Ring switching technology. Aside from Appendix C, they are not essential to installing, configuring, and maintaining your system and have been included as informational aids.
The following conventions are used to differentiate various types of text:
- Commands and keywords are in boldface.
- In interactive examples, user input is in boldface.
- Screen output appears in screen font.
- In command syntax statements:
- Parameters (variables for which a specific value is to be typed) are in italics.
- Optional arguments are in square brackets ( [ ] ).
- Alternative arguments are separated by vertical bars, and are grouped within curly braces.
- The control key is indicated by a caret preceding a letter: For example, ^A means Control-A.
