The following sections in this chapter provide instructions to install ANA 4.0:
• Ensuring a Smooth Installation
• Accessing Installation Log Files
Ensuring a Smooth Installation
You should install the gateway first since it has to be up and running before you install the client.
When a gateway is installed on a server, the unit functionality is automatically available on that server. You can install a unit on a separate server and point it to a gateway installed on another server.
For information on uninstalling ANA 4.0, see Uninstalling ANA 4.0.
This section contains information on:
• Ensuring a Smooth Installation of the Gateway
• Ensuring a Smooth Installation of the Unit
• Ensuring a Smooth Installation of the Client
Before you begin your installation, review the section Cisco ANA 4.0 Installation Prerequisites
Ensure that:
•The user who starts the installation has root privileges.
•You exit all programs before starting the ANA installation.
•Cisco ANA 4.0 installation DVD is in place.
•You will need an inviolable password. This password should have 8 or more characters and contain at least:
–One uppercase letter
–One lowercase letter
–One numeral
–One special character
Note Some special characters will not be accepted by ANA. Special characters that are not accepted in ANA passwords are: dollar sign ($), single apostrophe ('), double apostrophe ("), question mark (?), and backquote (`).
The password cannot contain a username or reversed username, or the word cisco, or any variation of the name cisco, for example ocsic.
An example of a good password is System123!
Installing ANA from the DVD takes a little longer, and the message, Preparing to install is displayed as ANA 4.0 prepares to install.
If you copy installAna40.sh and Ana40.bin from the DVD to the hard disk, installation will be faster. Do not copy installAna40.sh and Ana40.bin to the /tmp directory.
To navigate through the installation or uninstallation processes, you can:
•Click Next to proceed to the next screen.
•Click Previous if you want to change anything on a previous screen.
•Click Cancel to exit the installation.
We recommend that you do not click Cancel during installation. If you encounter a problem during the installation, do not cancel it. Let it proceed until it exits. For details of installation logs, see Accessing Installation Log Files.
Ensuring a Smooth Installation of the Gateway
Before proceeding with the installation of the gateway, ANA checks for the following and if it does not find what is required, error messages appear, and the installation may terminate.
Therefore, ensure that the following requirements are met for a gateway installation:
What ANA Checks For What You Should EnsureWhether the user has ANA root user privileges.
Ensure that the user performing the installation has ANA superuser privileges. After the installation has completed, the ANA root user can login as ANA root user and create other users.
To do this, see the section User Privileges for Installation
Whether all required ports are available.
Ensure that the required ports are available.
For a list of ports, see Ports and Protocols.
Whether Perl exists on the installation machine.
Ensure that Perls is present on the installation machine.
Usually Perl is present on a machine that runs on Solaris. During installation, ANA 4.0 checks for the Perl that is present on the machine for initial bootstrapping.
After ANA 4.0 installs its own version of Perl, it no longer requires the system version.
Whether the /bin/tcsh. is available.
Usually tcsh is present on a machine that runs on Solaris. After ANA 4.0 installs its own version of tcsh, it no longer requires the system version.
Ensure that the shell is /bin/tcsh on the installation machine.
Whether the system is running SPARC based Solaris 10 with required patch Generic_118822-25 and the required packages.
Ensure that Solaris 10 with the required patch Generic_118822-25 has been installed.
For minimum hardware requirements, see Hardware and Software Requirements.
For the patches required, see Solaris Patches.
Whether there is enough space available in / (200MB), /tmp (2.1GB), and /var (100MB) for the installation.
Ensure that there is enough disk space available.
See Hardware and Software Requirements for details.
Whether enough RAM is available.
Ensure that the required RAM is available.
See Hardware and Software Requirements.
If the requirement is not met, the installation is not terminated. You will only see a warning message.
Whether ANA 4.0 has already been installed on the machine.
Ensure that any earlier installation is uninstalled.
Whether there has been an incomplete uninstall of ANA 4.0
If prompted by ANA, you should manually remove the existing version.
Ensuring a Smooth Installation of the Unit
For a unit installation, the Oracle database is not required explicitly. It is only needed for the gateway server. Also, you will have to provide the IP address of the gateway.
To install a unit follow the same steps as for the gateway. See Ensuring a Smooth Installation of the Gateway
Ensuring a Smooth Installation of the Client
For the client installation to proceed smoothly, ensure that you have Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later installed. See Client Requirements
Installing the Gateway
You have two options to install the gateway. They are:
• Installing the Gateway with a Local Database
• Installing the Gateway with a Remote Database
This section also contains information on:
• Verifying the Gateway Installation
The installation performs certain preinstallation checks. For example, it checks:
•For available disk space
•For the correct operating system version and patches
•Whether the product is already installed
The Transparent Network Substrate (TNS) listener service must be up and available for connection with the Oracle database services.
The installation displays a warning if the prerequisites are not met. You can either cancel the installation and check the prerequisites, or continue with the installation. For details of the prerequisites, see Cisco ANA 4.0 Installation Prerequisites.
ANA 4.0 installation then extracts, creates directories, and installs the software. It creates a temporary directory under /tmp directory.
You should have the Oracle details ready since you will be prompted to enter them during the installation process. You will need the password for a local installation of Oracle. For a remote installation of Oracle, you will need the host IP address and the Oracle password.
The default install directory is /export/home/ana40 and the default UNIX user/group is anauser/ana. These defaults can be overwritten during installation.
As part of the installation, the Application Registry is configured and environment variables are set. User aliases, database tables and indices are also created, during installation.
Depending on the location of your database (local or remote), you can select these options during the gateway installation:
•Gateway and Local DB—Choose this option if you are performing a gateway installation with the database locally available on the gateway machine. See Installing the Gateway with a Local Database for details.
•Gateway and Remote DB—Choose this option if you are performing a gateway installation with the database available on a separate machine. See Installing the Gateway with a Remote Database for details.
