This guide is for the networking or computer technician responsible for installing a Catalyst 2950 switch. We assume that you are familiar with the concepts and terminology of Ethernet and local area networking.
The Catalyst 2950 Desktop Switch Hardware Installation Guide describes the hardware features of Catalyst 2950 switches. It describes the physical and performance characteristics of the switches, explains how to install a switch, and provides troubleshooting information.
This guide is organized into these chapters:
"Overview," describes the switch ports, the standards that they support, and the LEDs.
"Installation," contains the procedures for installing a switch on a rack, table, shelf, or desk.
"Troubleshooting," describes how to identify and solve problems that might arise when you are installing a switch.
"Technical Specifications," lists the physical and environmental specifications and the regulatory agency approvals.
"Connectors and Cables," describes the connectors, cables, and adapters that you use to connect a switch to another device.
"Translated Safety Warnings," contains translations in various languages of the warnings in this guide.
This publication uses these conventions to convey instructions and information.
