This preface contains the following sections:

Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package that ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Therefore, it might be more up to date than printed documentation. To order additional copies of the Documentation CD-ROM, contact your local sales representative or call customer service. Audience

This guide is for network administrators who are responsible for the installation and operation of internetworking equipment.

It describes how to install, configure, and maintain the Cisco Catalyst 1800 Token Ring switch and includes information that describes the diagnostic tests provided with the software.

The appendixes include general information about Token Ring switching technology. Appendix C and Appendix F contain information you will need to install and maintain your system.

Note Means reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to material not covered in the manual.
Caution Means reader be careful. In this situation, you might do something that could result in equipment damage or loss of data.

Unless otherwise indicated, all commands are typed from the Main menu. Leading characters of hexadecimal notation (that is, 0x) are ignored.

Console interface output is displayed using the following format:

Enter Port Number or 0 for setting all ports
