Replacing the Front Panel Bezels on Cisco 7500 Series Routers

Introduction

The Cisco 7507, Cisco 7507-MX, Cisco 7513, Cisco 7513-MX, and Cisco 7576 routers have cosmetic front panels called bezels that you can replace if they are damaged. This publication provides the replacement procedures for the upper and the lower bezels on the Cisco 7507, Cisco 7507-MX, Cisco 7513, Cisco 7513-MX, and Cisco 7576 routers.

Replacing the Bezels on the Cisco 7507 or Cisco 7507-MX

This section describes the replacement of the bezels on the Cisco 7507 or Cisco 7507-MX.


Note      You must remove the lower bezel before you can remove the upper bezel. The plastic lower bezel is attached to the chassis with ball studs. The upper bezel is attached to the chassis with two captive screws. The EMI shielding around the outer edge of the upper bezel acts as a spring, and compresses when you push the panel into the chassis to keep the panel fitted tightly into the chassis opening.


Removing the Bezels

To remove the bezels from the Cisco 7507 and Cisco 7507-MX, follow these steps:

Step 1   Grasp the bottom edge of the lower bezel.

Step 2   Pull the bottom of the bezel out about 1 inch (2.54 cm), and then place your fingers behind the sides of the panel and pull it off the chassis. (See Figure 1.)

Step 3   On the upper bezel, use a screwdriver to loosen the two captive screws at the bottom edge of the panel frame.

Step 4   Place one hand against the upper center of the bezel to brace it. (See Figure 2a.) The top of the bezel acts as a pivot point when you pull the bottom out and away from the chassis.

Step 5   With your other hand, grasp the front of the bezel by inserting your fingers into the opening on the underside of the bezel. (See Figure 2a.)

Step 6   While pushing slightly against the top of the bezel to constrain it, pivot the bottom edge of the bezel outward approximately 2 inches (5.08 cm). (See Figure 2a.) Because of the tightly compressed electromagnetic (EMI) shielding, use significant force to pull the bottom of the bezel outward. However, be careful that you do not pull the bezel more than 2 inches (5.08 cm) away from the chassis or you can damage the inner bezel or LED board.

Step 7   When the bottom of the bezel clears the chassis opening, keep your hands in the same positions and pull the panel downward and off the chassis. (See Figure 2b.)

Step 8   Remove your new bezels from their packaging and inspect them for shipping damage. If the bezels are damaged, contact Cisco Systems Customer Service for replacements. (Contact Customer Service at 800 553-6387 or 408 526-7208. Customer Service hours are 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pacific time, Monday through Friday [excluding company holidays]. Installing the New Bezels

To install the new bezels on the Cisco 7507 or Cisco 7507-MX, follow these steps:


Step 1   To install the new upper bezel, grasp the sides of it with both hands. (See Figure 3)

Step 2   Note the two guide tabs at the top edges of the new bezel that fit into two slots in the top edges of the chassis opening. Tilt the top of the bezel back (away from you) about 30 degrees from vertical and slide the two guide tabs into the chassis slots. (See Figure 3a.)

Step 3   Check the top of the new bezel to make sure it is lined up with the top of the chassis opening. If you fail to align the bezel at this point you will damage the equipment when performing the next step.

Step 4   Push the bezel upward to push the tabs into the slots (see Figure 3a), and pivot the bottom of the bezel toward the chassis until the bezel meets the chassis. (See Figure 3b.) Maintain a steady upward pressure to keep the guide tabs in the chassis slots.

Step 5   When the bezel is flush against the front of the chassis, push the bezel upward until the bottom of it is level with the bottom of the chassis opening. (See Figure 3c.)

Step 6   While holding the bezel in place, place one palm against the upper center of the bezel to brace it, and place the other against the lip near the bottom edge of the bezel. (See Figure 3d.)

Step 7   Push the bezel upward and back into the chassis opening until the tabs on the front sides of the bezel are flush against the front of the chassis. (See Figure 3e.) Use significant force to compress the EMI shielding enough to fit into the opening. If the bezel resists, pull it slightly downward and make sure that it is lined up with the top and sides of the opening in the chassis.

Step 8   When the tabs on the front sides of the bezel are flush against the sides of the chassis, use a screwdriver to tighten the two captive screws in the bottom edge of the frame.

Step 9   To install the new lower bezel, place the ball studs on the back of the panel over the holes in the front lip of the chassis and push the panel onto the chassis until the ball studs snap into place.

This completes the procedure for replacing the bezels on the Cisco 7507 and Cisco 7507-MX.

Replacing the Bezels on the Cisco 7513, Cisco 7513-MX, or Cisco 7576

This section describes the replacement of the bezels on the Cisco 7513, Cisco 7513-MX, or Cisco 7576. Each bezel has four ball stud fasteners that secure it to the front of the Cisco 7513, Cisco 7513-MX, or Cisco 7576.

To replace the bezels on the Cisco 7513, Cisco 7513-MX, or Cisco 7576, follow these steps:


Step 1   Use either your hand or a flat-blade screwdriver to gently loosen the top of the upper bezel. (See Figure 4.)

Step 2   Pull the top of the upper bezel out about 2 inches (5.08 cm), and then grasp the sides and carefully pull it outward, away from the chassis.

Step 3   Use either your hand or a flat-blade screwdriver to gently loosen the top of the lower bezel. (See Figure 4.)

Step 4   Pull the top of the lower bezel out about 2 inches (5.08 cm), and then grasp the sides and carefully pull it outward, away from the chassis.

Step 6   To install the new upper bezel, align the pins on the bezel with the holes in the chassis and push the bezel against the chassis. (See Figure 5.) Repeat this to install the lower bezel.

This completes the procedure for replacing the bezels on the Cisco 7513, Cisco 7513-MX, or Cisco 7576.
