Preface

This preface describes who should read the Cisco Application and Content Networking Software User's Guide, how it is organized, and its document conventions.

This preface contains the following sections:

Document Objectives

This guide explains how to initialize Cisco Application and Content Networking Software (ACNS) for the first time. It also explains how to upgrade to ACNS software from a previous software release. This guide describes software features and provides a reference for commands that are unique to the ACNS software.

This guide assumes that your system hardware is physically installed and is connected to your network. You should use this guide in conjunction with the hardware and software documents listed in the "Documentation Roadmap" section.

Audience

This guide is intended for network system administrators and media managers familiar with network caching and content delivery network concepts. It is intended to familiarize them with ACNS and initial configuration procedures.

Explains how to configure, modify, and maintain disk storage. This chapter also provides disk space-allocation guidelines.

Chapter 4

Upgrading and Downgrading Your System Software

Explains how to upgrade from your current software release to ACNS software. This chapter also includes software downgrade procedures.

Cisco Application and Content Networking Software Cache Application Features

Describes new caching features supported in ACNS software.

Command descriptions use the following conventions:

boldface font

Commands and keywords in boldface.

italic font

Variables for which you supply values are in italics.

[   ]

Elements in square brackets are optional.

{x | y | z}

Alternative keywords are grouped in braces and separated by vertical bars.

Optional alternative keywords are grouped in brackets and separated by vertical bars.

string

A nonquoted set of characters. Do not use quotation marks around the string, or the string will include the quotation marks.

Screen examples use the following conventions:

screen font

Terminal sessions and information the system displays are in screen font.

boldface screen font

Information you must enter is in boldface screen font.

italic screen font

Variables for which you supply values are in italic screen font.



This pointer highlights an important line of text in an example.

^

The symbol ^ represents the key labeled Control—for example, the key combination ^D in a screen display means hold down the Control key while you press the D key.

<   >

Nonprinting characters, such as passwords, are in angle brackets.

[   ]

Default responses to system prompts are in square brackets.

!, #

An exclamation point (!) or a pound sign (#) at the beginning of a line of code indicates a comment line.

Graphical user interface elements use the following conventions:

Button names are in boldface font.

Notes and cautionary statements use these conventions:


Note   Means reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to materials not contained in this manual.


Caution   Means reader be careful. You are capable of doing something that might result in equipment damage or loss of data.

Technical Assistance Center

The Cisco TAC is available to all customers who need technical assistance with a Cisco product, technology, or solution. Two types of support are available through the Cisco TAC: the Cisco TAC Web Site and the Cisco TAC Escalation Center.

Cisco TAC Web Site

The Cisco TAC Web Site allows you to resolve P3 and P4 issues yourself, saving both cost and time. The site provides around-the-clock access to online tools, knowledge bases, and software. To access the Cisco TAC Web Site, go to the following URL:

All customers, partners, and resellers who have a valid Cisco services contract have complete access to the technical support resources on the Cisco TAC Web Site. Cisco TAC Escalation Center

The Cisco TAC Escalation Center addresses issues that are classified as priority level 1 or priority level 2; these classifications are assigned when severe network degradation significantly impacts business operations. When you contact the TAC Escalation Center with a P1 or P2 problem, a Cisco TAC engineer will automatically open a case.
