This chapter discusses how to install the Control Server, Broadcast Server, and Archive Server.
Note Although the Servers are preconfigured, after installation you must do some
additional configuration before you can use the Cisco IP/TV 3400 Series Servers to
broadcast scheduled live, prerecorded, or on-demand programs (see
"Customizing the Server
Configuration" and "Setting Up Your Servers").
Installing the Cisco IP/TV 3400 Series Servers
Follow these steps to install the Cisco IP/TV 3400 Series Servers:
Step 1 Review the safety precautions outlined in the Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information for Cisco IP/TV 3400 Series notesupplied in your Control Server, Broadcast Server, or Archive Server accessory kit.
Step 2 Completely read the Release Notes supplied in your Control Server, Broadcast Server, or Archive Server accessory kit.
Step 3 Unpack the Cisco IP/TV 3400 Series Server and confirm that the following items are included in your server package:

Note A PC monitor is not included in the Cisco IP/TV 3400 Series package; you must
supply the monitor.
Step 4 If desired, you can mount the Control Server, Broadcast Server, or Archive Server in a standard 19-inch rack. Mounting rails for the system can be purchased from your rack supplier.
Figure 2-1 shows the front panel of the Control Server, Broadcast Server, or Archive Server with the door closed.

Step 5 Connect the power cord, mouse, keyboard, and video monitor.
Step 6 Connect the network interface to either a 10-Mb or 100-Mb connector.
Note Turn on the primary AC power switch (back of unit) before the secondary power
switch (front of the unit). Both switches must be turned on for the unit to work. You need
to supply your own VGA-compatible video monitor.
Optional Expansion
You can use the Ultra Wide SCSI port to do the following:
Expand storage with SCSI disk drives
Function as a backup/archive device interface
For installation information, please refer to the documentation that came with your device.
Note Ultra Wide SCSI supports 40 MB-per-second transfer. If you attach slower SCSI
devices to the Ultra Wide port, all your attached SCSI devices will run at the speed of the
slowest device. On the Archive Server, the access speed of the internal SCSI drives will be
affected if you attach slower devices. For best performance, attach only Ultra Wide SCSI
devices. Note also that the last device on the SCSI bus must be terminated.
