ESP Tools

ESP Tools

The ESP also provides some software tools that can be used in special circumstances. These tools are installed on the ESP in either the /opt/aps/tools or the /opt/aps/scripts UNIX-level directories. The tools include:

The PNNI show commands and the display CDR file utilities are installed in the /opt/aps/tools directory. The ApsStart, ApsUninstall, ApsInstall, and ApsClearDb tools are installed in the /opt/aps/scripts directory.

Caution The tools described in this appendix should only be used by trained personnel, or under the direction of Cisco StrataCom Customer Service.

ApsStart

ApsStart is a UNIX-level command to start and stop the ESP processes. It is normally not needed by an ESP user and should be used with caution. ApsStart has the following syntax:

ApsStart {start | stop}

Where the start option starts the ESP processes and the stop option stops the ESP processes.

ApsUninstall

ApsUninstall is a UNIX-level command to uninstall the ESP software. It should only be used by trained Cisco field service engineers. To run ApsUninstall, change to the directory where the command is located and enter:

./ApsUninstall

When the command is executing it will produce output similar to the following:

################################################################### Uninstalling APS System, Copyright (c) Cisco Systems Inc. 1996-1997 ################################################################### Checking if APS is under execution Saving database files Removing script files Removing user entries Removing system entries Changing atmconfig entry Restoring tftp entry mv: cannot access /tmp/tmp.3631 sed: command garbled: s/ Deleting entries in aarconfig Removing billing directory export entries Removing associated files and directories ################################################################### Uninstalled APS successfully ###################################################################

ApsInstall

ApsInstall is normally a factory-level command and is not needed in the field since the ESP software should be downloaded from a StrataView Plus Workstation as was described in Appendix F.

To use this command, ESP software must not be loaded on your ESP platform. Then you must transfer an ESP software file (ESP_BIN_8_5.Z) to a temporary directory on the ESP. Next uncompress (uncompress filename) and tar (tar xvf ESP_BIN_8_5) the uncompressed file.

Then you could run ApsInstall, by changing to the directory where the command is located and entering:

./ApsInstall

When the command is running it will produce an output (including some prompts) similar to the following:

################################################################# Installing APS System, Copyright (c) Cisco Systems Inc. 1996-1997 ################################################################# Checking already installed executables... ApsClearDb

The ApsClearDb command can be used to clear the ESP database. This is an extremely dangerous command and should only be used by trained Cisco StrataCom field engineers.
