FastPAD to V.35 DCE Interface Cable

This cable is used to connect the composite or high speed data channel to a DCE device (e.g., modem or DSU/CSU). Since the FastPAD is also a DCE device, a crossover cable is used to connect the two devices.

The end of the cable terminated by the DB25 male connector plugs into the composite or high speed data channel connector. The other end of the cable is terminated by a Winchester 34-pin V.35 male connector and plugs into a DCE device. Since this is a crossover cable, the names of the signals on opposite ends of the cable are different. In the Table D-1, the Signal and V.35 Description columns define the signals at the V.35 end of the cable.

To provide an error-free transmission medium, only twisted pair cables should be used. Each differential signal pair uses a twisted pair (e.g., RD A and RD B are wired with one pair on the cable).

The other end of the cable is terminated with a DB37 RS449 male connector and plugs into a DCE device. Since this a cross-over cable, the names of the signals on opposite ends of the cable are different. In the Table D-5, the RS449 Signal and RS449 Description columns define the signals at the RS449 end of the cable terminated by a DB37 male connector.

FastPAD to RS-232 DCE Cable

This cable is used to connect any FastPAD low speed data channel, high speed data channel or composite to a DCE device like a low speed modem. Since the FastPAD is also a DCE device, this is a cross-over cable. Table D-6 shows the connector pin assignments for this cable:

Both ends of the cable are terminated by DB25 male connectors. One end plugs into an FastPAD connector and the other plugs into another DCE device.

Since this a cross-over cable, the names of the signals on opposite ends of the cable are different. In Table D-6, the Circuit and RS232C Description columns define the signals found on pins in column 2.


Note This cable can also be used to connect the composites of two FastPADs for test purposes. This "back-to-back" test requires that ICARDs be removed from the composite slots. Proper configuration of both FastPADs is required to achieve synchronization.

FRAM-01 Cable

This cable is used to connect devices to a FRAM-01 expansion module that is installed in the FastPAD. The triplex cable has a 68-pin male connector on the end that attaches to the FastPAD. There are three 25-pin connectors on the other end of the cable that are used to attaches devices to the FastPAD In addition to RS-232, the cable supports all three electrical interfaces (i.e., V.11, V.35, and RS-449) can be selected by the FRAM-01 interface adapter cards. Table D-7 shows the connector pin assignments for 68-pin connector side of the cable.
