Overview

TrueView Catalyst 1600 Manager is a Token Ring network management application that enables you to monitor and control the Catalyst 1600 Token Ring switch using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Catalyst 1600 Manager is one of a suite of network management applications that perform management functions appropriate to particular types of network device.

This guide explains how to use Catalyst 1600 Manager to manage the Catalyst 1600 device. For information about installing and configuring Catalyst 1600 Manager, starting and exiting the application and working with icons and tables, refer to the TrueView Applications Installation and User Guide.

About TrueView Catalyst 1600 Manager

TrueView Catalyst 1600 Manager enables you to manage the Catalyst 1600, and configure virtual local-area networks (LANs) that include one or more Catalyst 1600 devices.

TrueView Catalyst 1600 Manager enables you to:

• Manage Catalyst 1600 ports and source-routing information.

• Monitor traffic on the Catalyst 1600.

• Download boot code and run-time microcode to the Catalyst 1600.

• View the status of LEDs, and change the LCD display on the Catalyst 1600.

• Create virtual LANs to define a logical network structure that is independent of the actual layout, and control the forwarding of broadcast packets. For information about virtual LANs, see Appendix B, "Controlling Broadcast Frames with Virtual LANs."
