About This Guide

This chapter describes the information that you will find in this manual.

Audience

This guide is for network administrators. It assumes you are familiar with Token Ring local-area networks (LANs) and Microsoft Windows.

Structure

This guide is organized as follows:

Chapter 1 Describes the suite of TrueView management applications.
Chapter 2 Describes how to install and configure TrueView applications.
Chapter 3 Describes how to start applications and discover devices on the network.
Chapter 4 Describes how to organize devices on the network using group folders.
Chapter 5 Describes how to use the management tools provided by TrueView.
Chapter 6 Describes how to work with icons.
Chapter 7 Describes how to manage devices with tables.
Chapter 8 Describes how to use TrueView Alert Manager to manage alerts.
Appendix A Provides information about configuring the management station to run TrueView applications.

Terminology

This guide contains the following terms with the following specific meanings:

Mouse The physical device (not the mouse pointer).
Pointer The representation of the mouse on the screen.
Option button A button on the screen, which is typically selected (on) or clear (off), that you click on to indicate an option. If an option button has a black center, that indicates it is selected (on). If an option button has a white center, that indicates it is not selected. You can only select one option button in a group of option buttons.
Check box A box on the screen, which is typically selected (on) or clear (off), that you click on to indicate an option. An 'X' in a check box indicates it is selected (on). You can select a check box without affecting other check boxes.

Conventions

This guide has the following conventions:

Ctrl + A Hold down the Ctrl key and press the A key. That is, press the Ctrl key and the A key at the same time. Release both keys.
[ ] The enclosed items are optional.
< > The enclosed can have a variety of values.
: Omission of part of the program or file listing that is not necessary in the present discussion.
italic type Document titles.
boldface type User input and menu selections.
UPPERCASE Filenames, directory names, and disk drive names.
