This chapter describes the TrueView network management platform and the network management applications that TrueView supports.
TrueView is a Token Ring management platform that runs under Microsoft Windows. TrueView allows you to run the TrueView management applications described in the section "About TrueView Applications."
TrueView displays a window containing icons that represent devices on the network. You can launch the management application for a device by double-clicking on the icon corresponding to the device.
TrueView enables you to simplify network management by arranging the devices that are discovered on the network into group folders of your choice. You can use TrueView to configure the network management station, launch applications for discovered devices, and take advantage of a range of network management tools.
TrueView conforms to the user interface conventions for Microsoft Windows applications. For information about how to use Microsoft Windows, refer to the documentation supplied with the software.
TrueView provides a suite of management applications that perform the management functions appropriate to particular types of network devices. The management applications are TrueView Alert Manager and TrueView Catalyst 1600 Manager.
TrueView Alert Manager enables you to set up events associated with devices on the network. When an event occurs, TrueView Alert Manager generates an alert and can respond by logging the alert, producing a popup window, making a beep sound, playing a .WAV file, or running the program of your choice.
Catalyst 1600 Manager enables you to manage the Catalyst 1600 Token Ring switch.
