About This Guide

Overview

TheCisco Internet OSS for VoIP: Infrastructure Manager Implementation Guide provides detailed information about the product components of the Cisco Internet OSS for VoIP: Infrastructure Manager (Cisco VoIP: Infrastructure Manager) Solution and how to use the product components to accomplish various tasks. This document also describes the system requirements that must be met in order to install the Cisco VoIP: Infrastructure Manager product components, as well as, how to install, start, and stop the Cisco VoIP: Infrastructure Manager Solution's products' processes.

Who Should Use This Book

This guide is intended primarily for network operators who oversee large-scale service provider, voice over IP networks. You should have a basic understanding of network design, operation, and terminology, as well as familiarity with your own network configurations. You also must have a basic familiarity with Web browsers, UNIX, and Sun Microsystem's Solaris Operating System.

How This Book Is Organized

This manual is organized as follows:

"Solution Architecture and Overview," provides an overview of the Cisco VoIP: Infrastructure Manager Solution and the its product components.

"Provisioning," provides information about the Cisco Packet Telephony Center (Cisco PTC), Cisco Voice Routing Center (Cisco VRC), Cisco MGC Node Manager (CMNM), and Voice Services Provisioning Tool (VSPT) applications that support the provisioning of the Cisco VoIP: Infrastructure Manager Solution devices.

"Performance Monitoring," provides information about the Cisco CNS Performance Engine (Cisco CNS PE) application that supports the performance and accounting management functions by being the single point of collection for both types of data. Performance Management measures and records resource utilization and quality of service throughout the network. Accounting Management deals specifically with the collection and analysis of data to support billing.

"Fault Management," provides information about the applications and transport protocols required to monitor service provider voice networks and detect failure conditions. This chapter details the network architecture, fault management applications (Cisco Info Center, Cisco CNS Notification Engine, Cisco CNS Performance Engine, and the associated probes for the Cisco Info Center that are used to communicate with the Cisco CNS Notification Engine, Cisco CNS Performance Engine, and CMNM applications), and the deployment strategies surrounding Cisco's Fault Management Solution.

A Glossary and an Index are also provided.
