Preparing to Install SNA View on the Mainframe

This chapter describes what you do to prepare to install CiscoWorks Blue SNA View on a mainframe. Before you install, configure, and validate CiscoWorks Blue SNA View, read the following main topics in this chapter:

Mainframe Hardware Requirements

You need the following hardware to install the SNA View mainframe application:

Mainframe Software Requirements

This section lists mainframe software that you need to run the SNA View mainframe program.

Required Mainframe Software

You must have the following mainframe software for use with the SNA View mainframe application:

All CiscoWorks Blue SNA View workstations must have either TCP/IP or LU 6.2 connectivity to the SNA View mainframe. The TCP/IP connectivity is provided through the workstation operating system. The LU 6.2 connectivity is provided by one of the following products:

Note LU 6.2 connections are not supported for workstations using Solaris.

Optional Mainframe Software

The following mainframe software is optional:

Mainframe Installation Summary

This section summarizes the steps you follow to install SNA View on the mainframe and to update the other mainframe software. Use this installation summary to ensure that you have performed all the SNA View mainframe installation tasks.

Updating MVS and VTAM

This section provides a summary of steps required to change the MVS and VTAM system software. See the chapter "Updating the Mainframe Application Software" for details.

Step 1 Use SMP/E to unload and install the SNA View mainframe tape files to the mainframe.

Step 2 Configure LU 6.2 connectivity from the SNA View workstations to the mainframe.

Step 3 Configure TCP/IP connectivity from the SNA View workstations to the mainframe.

Step 4 Update SYS1.PARMLIB for MVS.

Step 5 Update VTAM.

Do Not Filter These VTAM Messages

The SNA View mainframe program needs to receive the following VTAM messages over the PPI or PPO interface. Do not block these messages from reaching the SNA View mainframe program.

Do Not Filter This SNA View Message

The SNA View mainframe program needs to receive the following message over the PPI or PPO interface. Do not block this message from reaching the SNA View mainframe program.

Updating SNA View

Update the NSPPARM configuration file by customizing the SNA View mainframe parameter cards. See the chapter "Updating the Mainframe Application Software" for details.

Updating NetView

The following steps summarize the changes to NetView. This process requires stopping and restarting NetView. See the chapter "Updating the Mainframe Application Software" for details.

Step 1 Verify that the NetView PPI is active.

Step 2 Update the files in the DSIPARM data set.

Step 3 Add the NSPSCMD CLIST to the DSICLD data set.

Step 4 Add or update NetView exit routines (DSIEX06, DSIEX11).

Step 5 Update the initial CLIST (the default initial CLIST is CNME1034).

Step 6 Assemble and link-edit SNA View programs with NetView.

Updating Netmaster

The following steps summarize the changes to SOLVE:Netmaster. This process does not require stopping SOLVE:Netmaster. See the chapter "Updating the Mainframe Application Software" for details.

Step 1 Verify that the SOLVE:Netmaster PPI is active.

Step 2 Update SOLVE:Netmaster PPOPROC from NSPKPPO.

Step 3 Copy the following SNA View PROCS to the SOLVE:Netmaster command data set: NSPKCMD, NSPKCM1, and NSPKPPI.

Step 4 Update CNMPROC to start the SNA View NSPKPPI and NSPKCMD PROCs.

Step 5 Verify SOLVE:Netmaster updates.
