Loading Mainframe Files from Distribution Tape

The SNA View mainframe product is a VTAM application that runs on an IBM mainframe under IBM MVS/Enterprise Systems Architecture (ESA); it enables the CiscoWorks Blue SNA View workstation to collect network management data from VTAM on that mainframe.

The mainframe application software and this guide are workstation independent, meaning that the software and these instructions apply to the IBM mainframe regardless of the workstation (Hewlett Packard (HP), Sun, or RS/6000) on which the CiscoWorks Blue SNA View workstation product is running.

When used with System Modification Program Extended (SMP/E) Release 7, or later, the SNA View distribution cartridge contains all of the materials required to install SNA View on the mainframe.

Before you load the mainframe files from the distribution tape, ensure that you have the necessary mainframe hardware and software. In addition, use the checklist provided in this chapter to ensure that you have completed the list of required system software changes.

Mainframe Hardware Requirements

You need the following hardware to install the mainframe application files:

• Tape drive--Cartridge tape reader capable of reading a 3480 cartridge with a density of 6250 Bits Per Inch (bps)

• Disk space--Six cylinders of 3380 Direct Access Storage Devise (DASD)

Mainframe Software Requirements

You need the following mainframe software for the SNA View mainframe application:

• Operating system--MVS/ESA 4.1 or later, plus SMP/E Release 7 or later

• Access method--VTAM 4.1 or later

• Network Control Program (NCP) 4.3 or later

• Protocol stack--One of the following communication protocols:

  • SNA LU 6.2

  • TCP (IBM TCP/IP or Interlink SNS/TCP)

• Network management (optional)--NetView 1.3 or later, or SOLVE:Netmaster 2.2

Installation Preparation Checklist

Before loading the SNA View mainframe application files, complete the following preparation tasks.

• Update SYS1.PARMLIB members (this task requires an Initial Program Loader (IPL) if you are using a version of MVS/ESA earlier than V5).

  • APF Authorize SNA View LOADLIB

  • Set performance group

  • Add entry to Program Properties Table

• Update VTAM (this task requires you to stop and restart VTAM).

  • Update MODETAB entry

  • Change ATCSTRxx member

  • Add application major node

  • Add member to ATCCONxx

  • Add or update VTAM exit ISTEXCCS (this task may require customization)

  • Update VTAM procedure to include Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM)
    data set

• Update NetView (this task requires you to stop and restart NetView).

  • Add CLISTs (DSICLD)

  • Add operators (DSIOPF)

  • Add NetView exits

  • Add task statements (DSIDMN)

  • Add profile (DSIPRF)

  • Update initial CLIST (CNM1034)

• Update Netmaster (this task does not require you to restart Netmaster).

  • Update CNMPROC

  • Update PPOPROC

  • Change PPI

  • Add Netmaster NCL procedures

Loading Files from Tape

This section lists the contents of the SNA View mainframe distribution tape. Following are details about the tape:

• Medium--3480 cartridge tape

• External label identification--NSP511

• VOLSER--NSP511

Installing SNA View Mainframe Application

To install SNA View application on your mainframe, follow the five steps described in this section.

Step 1 Load the SMP/E installation samples from the distribution tape. Use the sample Job Control Language (JCL) shown below to load the prefix.NSPS110I.NSPSINST data set.

Step 2 Allocate SNA View target and distribution libraries. Use the sample, ALLOC, in prefix.NSPS110I.NSPSINST to allocate your target and distribution libraries.

Step 3 Receive SNA View. Use the sample, RECNSP, in prefix.NSPS110I.NSPSINST to receive SNA View.

Step 4 Apply SNA View. Use the sample, APPNSP, in prefix.NSPS110I.NSPSINST to apply SNA View.
