This document describes the features and caveat for the functional image, release 2.38, for the ESCON aggregation cards used with the Cisco ONS 15530 DWDM multiservice aggregation platform.

Introduction
The ESCON aggregation card is a 10-port card for ESCON (Enterprise Systems Connection) traffic. The ESCON card converts the 10 client signals from optical to electrical and then aggregates them into a single 2.5-Gbps signal. This aggregated signal is sent through the backplane and the active switch fabric to either a 2.5-Gbps ITU trunk card, 10-Gbps ITU trunk card, or 10-Gbps uplink card. The cross connection between the two cards is configured using the CLI (command-line interface). The ESCON aggregation card has a redundant backplane connection.
Determining the Release of Your ESCON Aggregation Card Functional Image
This section describes the process you use to determine the existing functional image version installed on your ESCON aggregation card.
To display the functional image version in an ESCON aggregation card, use the following command in privileged EXEC mode:

Updating to a New Release
For detailed functional image upgrade instructions, refer to the Cisco ONS 15530 Software Upgrade Guide. To download the ESCON aggregation card functional image, go to the following URL:

Caution A functional image download cannot revert once the download is started. Do not interrupt the download procedure. Wait until it has finished before attempting any commands on the switch. Confirm that the download is done in binary mode and check file sizes before and after the download. A failure during reprogramming can result in the card being unusable.
Caveats
This section describes the resolved caveat for this release of the ESCON aggregation card functional image.
•CSCec35804
Symptom: ESCON clients experience link errors caused by CRC errors originating in the Cisco ONS 15530 chassis. The incrementing CRC errors and code violations can be observed using the show interface portgroup x/0/0 command.
Workaround: Upgrade the ESCON aggregation card FPGA image to a functional version of 2.38 or later.

Opening a TAC Case
Using the online TAC Case Open Tool is the fastest way to open P3 and P4 cases. (P3 and P4 cases are those in which your network is minimally impaired or for which you require product information.) After you describe your situation, the TAC Case Open Tool automatically recommends resources for an immediate solution. TAC Case Priority Definitions
To ensure that all cases are reported in a standard format, Cisco has established case priority definitions.
Priority 1 (P1)—Your network is "down" or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation.
Priority 2 (P2)—Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operation are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. You and Cisco will commit full-time resources during normal business hours to resolve the situation.
Priority 3 (P3)—Operational performance of your network is impaired, but most business operations remain functional. You and Cisco will commit resources during normal business hours to restore service to satisfactory levels.
Priority 4 (P4)—You require information or assistance with Cisco product capabilities, installation, or configuration. There is little or no effect on your business operations.
