Product Overview

1.1 Introduction

This chapter provides an overview of the Cisco 626. It also describes all general applications.

1.2 Product Description

The Cisco 626 is an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) modem for home connectivity to an ADSL service provider network over an Asynchronous Transfer Mode 25 Mbits per second (ATM25) physical layer. The Cisco 626 receives up to a maximum rate of 9.2 Mbps (downstream rate) and transmits up to a maximum rate of .832 Mbps (upstream rate). An ATM25 interface provides a connection to either a CPE router or an ATM25-equipped PC.

The following lists define all Cisco 626 product features.

Hardware Features

• Discrete Multitone DSL (DMT Issue 1 encoding) interface, with maximum receive data rates up to 9.2 Mbps and transmit data rates up to .832 Mbps

• ATM25 interface

• ATM cell delineation adherent to ITU-T I.432

• Supports ATM Forum-compliant permanent virtual circuits (PVCs)

• Status LEDs indicating ATM25 and ADSL activity

• Fully compatible with the Cisco 6100 and 6200 Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) ATM multiplexers

1.2.2 Back Panel Connectors

The following table describes the function of the connectors and switches on the Cisco 626 back panel. See Figure 1-2 for the location of the connectors described in the following table.

1.2.3 System Memory

The Cisco 626 comes with 2 MB of Extended Data Out (EDO) DRAM implementing a 60 ns access time.

1.2.4 Environmental Constraints

• Ambient operating temperature 32º to 104ºF (0º to 40ºC)

• Ambient storage temperature -40ºto 185ºF (-40ºto 85ºC)

1.3 Network Management Applications

The Cisco 626 supports the following networked system management applications:

• Telnet Server located in "Using Telnet".

• TFTP Server located in "Using a TFTP Server".
