Product Overview

1.1 Introduction

This chapter provides an overview of the Cisco 626. It also describes all general applications.


Note This chapter documents general product features available in the Cisco 626 product line. Please refer to the Cisco 626 release notes document for a current list of product features available in the Cisco 626 you purchased.

1.2 Product Description

The Cisco 626 is an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) modem for home connectivity to an ADSL service provider network over an Asynchronous Transfer Mode 25 Mbits per second (ATM25) physical layer. The Cisco 626 receives up to a maximum rate of 9.2 Mbps (downstream rate) and transmits up to a maximum rate of .832 Mbps (upstream rate). An ATM25 interface provides a connection to either a CPE router or an ATM25-equipped PC.

The following figure illustrates the Cisco 626 ATM ADSL Modem.

1.2.2 Back Panel Connectors

The following table describes the function of the connectors and switches on the Cisco 626 back panel. See Figure 1-2 for the location of the connectors described in the following table.

RJ-45 ATM25 Connector. Connects to the ATM25 port on your PC, laptop or LAN hub.

RJ-45 Management Connector. Connects to the serial port on your PC or laptop.

RJ-11 ADSL Connector. Connects to the wall jack.

1.2.3 System Memory

The Cisco 626 comes with 2 MB of Extended Data Out (EDO) DRAM implementing a 60 ns access time.
