The following paragraphs discuss the objectives, audience, and conventions of the LightStream 2020 Configuration Guide. They also list related Cisco documentation for the LightStream 2020 multiservice ATM switch (LS2020 switch).
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available on a CD called Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series. The CD is updated and shipped monthly, so it might be more current than printed documentation. To order the Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD, contact your local sales representative or call Customer Service. The CD is available by itself (as a single CD) and through an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco technical documentation on the World Wide Web, using URL http://www.cisco.com.
Note The Cisco Connection Documentation, Enterprise Series CD was previously called UniverCD.
This configuration guide is a task-oriented manual that tells you how to use a series of configuration programs to configure LS2020 nodes in a network. The manual discusses the various procedures you need to perform and presents equipment settings that are either required or recommended.
Your network should be fully installed before you begin to configure it. See the LightStream 2020 Installation Guide for installation instructions.
The LightStream 2020 Configuration Guide is meant for network administrators and operators who configure and maintain LS2020 switches. Readers should be familiar with SunOS and Sun 4 workstation operation. Readers should also understand networking technology and the interfaces used by the devices connecting to their LightStream 2020 network.
This manual is organized as follows:
- Chapter 1, "Using the Configurator," provides an overview of the configurator, telling you how to use it and outlining the kinds of functions it performs.
- Chapter 2, "Configuration Basics," presents the categories of information you must provide during configuration.
- Chapter 3, "Configuration Procedures," gives the steps needed for building, updating, and backing up a configuration database.
- Chapter 4, "Configuration Attributes," presents the attributes (parameters) you can set through use of the configurator.
- Appendix A, "Expert Mode," explains how to access expert mode and how to use the dialog boxes that offer expert mode options.
- Appendix B, "Clocking on the Serial Access Card," explains how to set bit rates on serial access card ports.
The following conventions are used to differentiate various types of text:
- Commands and keywords are in boldface.
- In interactive examples, user input is in boldface.
- In command syntax statements:
- Parameters (variables for which a specific value is to be typed) are in italics.
- Optional arguments are in square brackets.
- Alternative arguments are separated by vertical bars, and are grouped within curly braces.
Note Means
reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to material not covered in the manual.
| Caution Means reader be careful. In this situation, you might do something that could result in equipment damage or loss of data. |
