Guide to Cisco Multiservice Switch Documentation (August 2003)
Release notes and technical manuals for this product are available on Cisco.com and on the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM only. The steps below explain how to access documentation for the following multiservice switching products:
•Cisco MGX 8xxx switches
•Cisco WAN Manager (CWM) network management software
•Cisco BPX switches
•SES (Service Expansion Shelf)—a PNNI controller for BPX switches
How to Find Customer Documents for Multiservice Switches Online
There are two main ways you can find Multiservice Switch customer documents online. Use the first way if you know the part number for the document you want; use the second way if you do not know the part number.
If the Part Number Is Known
Use the following procedure if you know or can find the document's part number:
1. Obtain the document's part number, for example from the "Related Documentation" section in another manual or release note.
2. In your browser's URL field, type www.cisco.com to bring up the Cisco home page.
3. In the top right Search field, enter the document part number (for example, OL-3842-01) and click on GO. You can confirm if you have the correct document, because the part number appears in page footers.
Tip Each manual and each release note contain a "Related Documentation" section that lists all the manual titles and part numbers that support a particular release. You can make your search very specific by searching for an exact title or part number. Include the full part number in your search.
If the Part Number Is Not Known
Release notes are generally organized online as follows: Product, "Release Notes", version number. Technical manuals are generally organized online as follows: Product, version number, document title.
Use the following procedures if you do not know or cannot find the document's part number.
Finding Cisco WAN Manager Documents
To find Cisco WAN Manager customer documents online:
1. Go to http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cwm.
2. Look for the CWM release number.
Finding Multiservice Switch Documents
To find Multiservice Switch customer documents online:
1. Go to http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wanbu/index.htm.
2. Look for the switch name and then the release number (for example, MGX 8850 (PXM1E), then Release 4).
To Download or Print Documentation
The following procedure works for PDF or HTML file formats. To download or print a document:
1. Click on the PDF link for the full book or release note. The file opens.
2. Save the file to your hard disk (File/Save As), or print the file (File/Print).
Note You cannot print PDF files of the release notes from the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM if the computer that the CD-ROM has been installed on does not have internet connectivity to the external www.cisco.com site. Clicking on the PDF icon on the Documentation CD-ROM with no external internet connectivity results in a spurious error message.
