Guide to Cisco Multiservice Switch Documentation (May 2003)
This guide explains how to access release notes and product manuals for multiservice switching products.
Our products ship with this guide and a Documentation CD-ROM. Starting in June 2002, Cisco multiservice switching products no longer ship with printed release notes. Instead, release notes are available online and on the Documentation CD-ROM. This change ensures that you receive the latest release notes, because printed release notes might be obsolete or outdated.
To Access or Print Release Notes
Multiservice switch release notes are on the Documentation CD-ROM. They are also accessible from the following URL: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wanbu/index.htm. Table 1 lists the May 2003 product release versions and their corresponding release notes.
Note The June 2002 product release included two new PNNI routing switches: the Cisco MGX 8830 and the Cisco MGX 8850 (PXM1E). For clarity, the Cisco MGX 8850 switch will now be referred to by the type of processor card it uses, for example, MGX 8850 (PXM1), MGX 8850 (PXM1E), or MGX 8850 (PXM45). These new titles will help you access compatible documentation. The release notes contain more information about these new switches.
Release notes cannot be ordered, but can be printed from the online PDF files. To access release notes online, you need to know the release version (see Table 1). Release notes are generally organized as follows: Switch name, Release notes, Release version. The following sample procedure describes how to find and print the Cisco MGX 8950 Release 4.0.00 release notes:
Step 1 Go to the following URL: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wanbu/index.htm.
Step 2 Click on MGX 8950.
Step 3 Click on Release Notes.
Step 4 Click on 4.0.00 Release Notes for MGX 8950.
Step 5 Click on the PDF icon in the top right corner.
Step 6 Download the release notes to your hard drive or print them.
Note PDF files of the release notes or manuals cannot be printed from the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM if the computer that the CD-ROM has been installed on does not have internet connectivity to the external www.cisco.com site. Clicking on the PDF icon or links to full-book PDF files on the Documentation CD-ROM with no external internet connectivity results in a spurious error message.
To Access or Print Product Manuals
Multiservice switch product manuals are on the Documentation CD-ROM. They are also accessible from the following URL: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wanbu/index.htm. They can be printed from the online PDF file. The manuals that support the May 2003 release are listed in Table 2.
