Once the FastPAD is installed and configured, it is ready to be used by the attached equipment. The information in this appendix describes how equipment attached to data channels and expansion channels can initiate and receive calls as well as special considerations for voice and Fax equipment attached to expansion channels.
For data channels, the destination is fixed as defined in each data channel's configuration. For users attached to expansion channels, a speed dial number or a long-form number can be used to select any destination. A directory of speed dial and long-form numbers should be prepared and distributed to expansion channel users. Table J-1 illustrates a format that might be used for a speed dial directory:

The long-form numbers that can be used by expansion channel users have the following format:

# = the Long Call Prefix identified in the expansion channel's configuration.
ab = a destination IPX/FRP Number (1-62).
cd = the destination Switch Port Number (0-15).
e = a Slot Number (1-8 or Hunt Group).
f = a Channel (0=Voice, 1 = Fax, and 2 = PSTN).
Table J-2 illustrates a format that might be used for a long-form number directory:

Because the FastPAD supports any-to-any connectivity, you may want to limit the directories to only those numbers that select compatible destinations for different users.
For equipment attached to data channels, there are basically two ways for a call to be originated or accepted by a data channel:
1. When the Connect Channel configuration parameter is enabled (YES), the channel will automatically initiate a call to the destination Switch, Port, and Channel Number defined in the channel's configuration. Note that the specific destination may identify a hunt group. In this case, the first available data channel is accessed at a specific destination.
2. If the Enabled Channel configuration parameter is enabled (YES), the channel will accept an incoming call from any compatible data channel.
Once a call is established in one of these ways, it will remain active until the connection to the FastPAD goes down, the local FastPAD is reset, or the Connect Channel configuration parameter is disabled.
Originating a call from an expansion channel is more flexible than the methods used by data channels. Users of attached equipment can dial a long form number to any address (i.e., switch, port, and channel number) or they can use any of the numbers defined in the system's speed dial (map) table. Once the speed dial table has been configured, you should make the table of speed dial numbers available to the voice and Fax users. You can also configure an expansion channel to automatically dial a speed dial number. In summary, there are basically two ways to originate a call channel:
Either form accesses a configured specific destination or a hunt group at a specified destination.
When a hunt group is used, the system will access the first available channel that is compatible with the configuration of the originating channel. When a user entered speed dial or long form number is used, the call can access any destination (regardless of compatibility).
