About This Guide

This guide describes how to install and use TrueView Alert Manager.

Audience

This guide is for network administrators. It assumes you are familiar with Token Ring local-area networks and using Microsoft Windows.

Structure

This guide is organized as follows:

Chapter 1 Defines Alert Manager and lists the functions that are provided by the Alert Manager application. It also contains instructions for installing Alert Manager.
Chapter 2 Provides instructions for using Alert Manager.

Terminology

This guide contains the following terms with the following specific meanings:

Bridge Any bridge on the network.
Mouse The physical desktop device (not the pointer on the screen).
Pointer Representation of the mouse on the screen.
Option box A button on the screen, which is typically selected (On) or clear (Off), that you click on to indicate an option. Unlike check buttons, option buttons influence other options. If an option button has a black center, that indicates it is selected (On). If an option button has a white center, that indicates it is not selected (Off).
Check box A box on the screen, which is typically selected (On) or clear (Off), that you click on to indicate an option. Unlike radio buttons, check boxes do not influence other options. An 'X' in a check box indicates it is selected (On).

Conventions

This guide has the following conventions:

Ctrl + A Hold down the Ctrl key, and press the A key (that is, press the Ctrl key and the A key at the same time). Release the Ctrl key.

: Omission of part of the program or file listing that is not necessary in the present discussion
italic type Document titles
boldface type User input and menu selections
UPPERCASE Filenames, directory names, and disk drive names
