QoS Policy Manager Error Messages


These are the error messages that QoS Policy Manager might produce. These messages do not include the IOS software messages you may get when applying your policies to network devices. See the IOS software documentation for information on IOS software messages.

Policy Manager Error Messages

Error Message   DNS host resolution processing has been aborted.

Explanation   The operator has aborted the resolution process.

Recommended Action   None.

Error Message   DNS host resolution processing completed.

Explanation   The DNS resolution processing is complete.

Recommended Action   None.

Error Message   DNS host resolution processing completed with errors.

Verify the spelling of host names. Contact your system administrator if errors continue.

Explanation   The DNS host resolution processing is complete, but there are errors.

Recommended Action   Check all the names for spelling errors. If names are correct and the errors continue, contact your system administrator.

Error Message   There is already a group with the name Group Name.

Choose a different name.

Explanation   The database contains a group with the name you have just chosen.

Recommended Action   Give the group you are creating a different name.

Error Message   Member interfaces will keep group QoS Property qos property name.

Explanation   This action will not change the QoS Property of the member interfaces.

Recommended Action   None

Error Message   Group QoS property os property name and its policies will override member interfaces QoS Property.

Explanation   Group policies override member interface policies when there are differences between the group policies and the member interface policies.

Recommended Action   None

Error Message   There are policies defined for the group that are incompatible with the QoS Property name QoS Property.

Remove incompatible policies and make the changes to the group?

Explanation   The group policies conflict with the defined QoS Property.

Recommended Action   Select Yes to remove the incompatible group policies.

Error Message   Select one or more available interfaces to add to the group.

Explanation   You have not selected any group members for this command.

Recommended Action   Select one or more group members.

Error Message   Select one or more group members to remove from the group.

Explanation   You have not selected any group members to remove from the group.

Recommended Action   Select one or more group members.

Error Message   The string WordToFind was not found

Explanation   The system was unable to find the designated string.

Recommended Action   Check the device configuration.

Error Message   Missing host-name or IP address.

Explanation   A host name or IP address was not entered.

Recommended Action   Enter a host name or IP address.

Error Message   Invalid IP address.

Explanation   The IP address is not recognized.

Recommended Action   Correct the IP address and continue.

Error Message   Invalid Mask.

Enter a valid mask or leave the mask field empty.

Explanation   You have designated the use of a mask, but the field is empty or contains an invalid entry.

Recommended Action   Correct the mask, or leave the field empty, remove the designation and continue.

Error Message   Duplicate host name.

Remove or change one of them.

Explanation   There are two entries with the same host name

Recommended Action   Change the name of one of the hosts.

Error Message   Host group must have a name.

Explanation   A host group name was not entered for this host group.

Recommended Action   Enter a host group name and continue.

Error Message   There are two groups named group name.

Rename one of them.

Explanation   Two groups can not have the same name.

Recommended Action   Rename one of the groups.

Error Message   Are you sure you want to remove group name and its contents?

Explanation   You are about to delete this group.

Recommended Action   Select Yes if you wish to remove the group and its members. Otherwise select No.

Error Message   You can not delete this host group because there are statements that use the group. Reference was found in policy name in folder name.

Remove all references and try again.

Explanation   There are statements that use this group in the indicated policy name and folder.

Recommended Action   Remove all references or keep the host groups.

Error Message   There is already an interface named interface name defined for the device.

Explanation   The name you are trying to assign already exists on this device. You can not have two interfaces with the same name on a device.

Recommended Action   Assign a different interface name to this interface.

Error Message   The IP address ip address is already defined as an interface of the device router name. Verify that you have the correct IP address

Explanation   The address you are trying to assign is the address of an interface on another device.

Recommended Action   Verify that this is the correct address.

Error Message   The IP address ip address is already defined as a device in the database. Verify that you have the correct IP address.

Explanation   The IP address already exists in the database. You can not have two devices with the same name.

Recommended Action   Verify that this is the correct IP address. Otherwise give this device a different name.

Error Message   Invalid IP address. Enter a valid IP address in the field name field.

Explanation   The address you are trying to assign is not a valid IP address.

Recommended Action   Enter a valid IP address and continue.

Error Message   Enter a value in the field name field.

Explanation   This field requires an entry.

Recommended Action   Enter a value in the field.

Error Message   Rate must be an integer.

Explanation   An integer is the only acceptable entry for this field.

Recommended Action   Enter a valid integer.

Error Message   field name can not be empty.

Explanation   This field requires an entry.

Recommended Action   Enter a value in the field.

Error Message   field name must be between min value and max value.

Explanation   The entry in the field is not between the minimum and maximum value limits.

Recommended Action   Enter a value between the minimum and maximum limits.

Error Message   field name must be less than max value.

Explanation   The value in this field is greater than the maximum value allowed.

Recommended Action   Enter a value that is less than the maximum value.

Error Message   field name must be greater than min value.

Explanation   The value in this field is less than the minimum value allowed.

Recommended Action   Enter a value greater than the minimum limit.

Error Message   There are policies defined for the QoS property name that conflict with the new QoS Property qos property.

Remove these policies and change the QoS Property for the interface?

Explanation   You have created a new QoS Property that conflicts with the specified QoS Property.

Recommended Action   Select Yes to remove the conflicts.

Error Message   Could not open Telnet connection to the device device IP to verify device information.

Check that Telnet is enabled on the device and that the device is reachable through the network.

Explanation   Failed to open a Telnet connection. The device may not be available on the network or may not have Telnet enabled.

Recommended Action   Verify that Telnet is enabled on the device and that the device is available on the network.

Error Message   Could not open SNMP connection to device device ip to verify device information. Check that the community string is correct and that the device is reachable through the network.

Explanation   The device may not be accessible on the network, or may not have a correct community string.

Recommended Action   Verify that the community string is correct and that the device is available on the network.

Error Message   Authentication error.

Check that the user name and password are correct.

Explanation   The system could not authenticate the user identification or password.

Recommended Action   Ensure that the user name and password are correct.

Error Message   The policy action action name for policy policy name is not supported on the IOS version running on the device.

Explanation   This action is not supported by this version of IOS on this device.

Recommended Action   Update the software for the device or delete and change the policy.

Error Message   The QoS Property property name for interface interface name is not supported on the IOS version running on the device.

Explanation   The IOS software version running on the designated interface does not support the designated QoS Property.

Recommended Action   Update the software for the interface or delete and change the QoS Property.

Error Message   The IP address ip address is already defined as an interface of the device router name. You can not define the same device twice.

Explanation   You can not have duplicate IP addresses.

Recommended Action   Check that the IP address you have entered is correct.

Error Message   The IP address ip address is already defined as a device in the database. You can not define the same device twice.

Explanation   You can not have duplicate IP addresses.

Recommended Action   Check that the IP address you have entered is correct.

Error Message   The IP address field must contain a valid IP address.

Enter a valid IP address.

Explanation   The data entered into the IP address field is not a valid IP address.

Recommended Action   Enter a valid IP address.

Error Message   You must select a name in the host group list.

Explanation   This data is not a name in the host group list.

Recommended Action   Select a name in the host group list.

Error Message   You must select a port or enter a number between 0 and 65535 in the port field.

Explanation   The data is not a valid port entry.

Recommended Action   Select a port or enter a number between 0 and 65535.

Error Message   Are you sure you want to delete application service name?

Explanation   You have selected the delete function for this service.

Recommended Action   Answer Yes to delete the service and No to keep the service.

Error Message   There is already an application service named application service name. Choose a different name.

Explanation   The identified application service already exists.

Recommended Action   Select a different application service name.

Error Message   You must select a port or enter a number between 0 and 65535 in the port field.

Explanation   The data is not a valid port enter.

Recommended Action   Select a port or enter a number between 0 and 65535.

Error Message   Could not connect to the QoS Manager service. Verify that the service is started. Changes will be saved to the local copy of the database. When the QoS Manager is available, saving the database updates the QoS Manager.

Explanation   You are unable to connect to the QoS Manager service. In the meantime any changes you make will be saved to the local copy of the database. The next time you are connected to the QoS Manager the QoS Manager is updated by issuing a save database command. The Distribution Manger does not function if you are not connected to the QoS Manager.

Recommended Action   Continue to work with the local copy of the database until you can connect to the QoS Manager.

Explanation   You made changes to the database. If you exit without saving the database, the changes will be lost.

Recommended Action   Select Yes to save changes made to the database. Selecting No voids all changes made since the last save command.

Error Message   There are host names in the database requiring IP address resolution.

To resolve names now and save the database, click Yes
To save the database without resolving the names, click No.

Explanation   The IP address of the host has not been resolved.

Recommended Action   Click Yes to resolve the host IP address and save the database, or click No to save the database without host IP address resolution.

Error Message   There are no unresolved host names defined in the database.

Explanation   All host IP addresses have been resolved in the database.

Recommended Action   Click OK.

Error Message   File not found.

Explanation   The file requested can not be found

Recommended Action   Check that the name is correct.

Error Message   Bad file format. The file is not a QoS database.

Explanation   The requested file is not formatted as a QoS database file.

Recommended Action   Verify the file you are trying to access is a QoS database. Check the file name.

Error Message   Invalid file. The file is not a QoS database

Explanation   The requested file is not a QoS database file.

Recommended Action   Verify the file you are trying to access is a QoS database. Check the file name.

Error Message   Unsupported database version. The file is a QoS database from an older version of the product.

Explanation   The software version you are using is newer than the database you are trying to access.

Recommended Action   

Error Message   Open file error. Error: error id.

Explanation   System read error.

Recommended Action   Try again.

Error Message   Enter a name for the policy.

Explanation   All policies must have a name.

Recommended Action   Enter a policy name.

Error Message   A policy named policy name already exists. Choose a different name.

Explanation   This name is a duplicate of one already in the database.

Recommended Action   Enter a different name.

Error Message   Define a filter for the policy.

Explanation   A filter is required in this policy.

Recommended Action   Define a filter for this policy.

Error Message   You can not delete the folder name folder.

Explanation   The folder is a required folder and can not be deleted.

Error Message   Are you sure you want to remove interface name from the group group name?

Explanation   The action removes the designated interface from the specified group.

Recommended Action   Click Yes to remove the interface from the group. Click No to leave the interface in the group.

Error Message   The interface interface name is a member of the group group name. Interface will be removed from the group and deleted from the database.

Do you still want to delete the interface?

Explanation   Your are advised that this interface is a member of a group. If you delete it, you are deleting it from both the group and the database.

Recommended Action   Click Yes to remove the interface. Click No to keep the interface in the group and in the database.

Error Message   Device device name has at least one interface that is a member in a group. Interfaces will be removed from the group and the device, and its interfaces deleted from the database.

Do you still want to delete the device?

Explanation   The device you are attempting to delete has interfaces and at lease one interface is a member of a group. If you delete the device, all of the device's interfaces are also deleted.

Recommended Action   Click Yes to delete the device and all of its interfaces from the database and from any groups to which they are attached. Click No to keep the device and its interfaces.

Error Message   You can not create a policy in the folder folder name.

Choose an interface, a device group or a device that supports policies at the device level.

Explanation   You can create a policy only at an interface level, a device group level or for those devices which support the attachment of policies.

Recommended Action   Group the interfaces for which you want a policy, and create a group policy.

Error Message   You can not paste the policy in the folder name folder.

The folder does not support the action name policy action.

Explanation   You can create a policy only at an interface level, a device group level or for those devices which support the attachment of policies.

Error Message   You can not create a policy on interface interface name. The interface does not support any policy actions.

Explanation   The interface will not allow you to create a policy, because no policy actions are supported on that interface.

Error Message   You can not create a policy on device group group name. The group does not support any policy actions.

Explanation   The interface will not allow you to create a policy, because no policy actions are supported on that device group.

Error Message   Can not launch exe file name.

Windows system message error.

Explanation   This is a MS Windows system error

Recommended Action   Retry to launch the program. If this is not successful, you may need to re-boot the system.

Error Message   The removed interface router name\interface name will keep the group QoS Property last_queue.

Do you want to keep the other policies defined for the group as well?

Explanation   The removed interface retains only the indicated group QoS Property automatically.

Recommended Action   Click Yes to keep all policies. Click No to cancel the policies.

Error Message   Do you want to keep the group's policies on the interface router name\interface name?

Explanation   The group policies are not automatically retained for the indicated interface.

Recommended Action   Click Yes to keep the policies. Click No to cancel the policies.

Error Message   The removed interface router name\interface name will keep QoS Property last_queue.

Do you want to remove the interface from the group?

Explanation   The removed interface keeps the QoS Property characteristics even though it is removed from the group.

Recommended Action   Click Yes to remove the interface from the group. Click No to keep the interface in the group.

Error Message   Member interfaces will keep the group QoS Property last_queue.

Explanation   Member interfaces will retain the indicated group QoS Property even if they are no longer members of the group.

Recommended Action   If the interface is no longer a member of the group you may set other properties for the interface.

Error Message   Group QoS Property last_queue and its policies will override the QoS Property of the member interfaces.

Do you still want to add the interface.

Explanation   Interfaces take on the QoS Property characteristics when added to a group.

Recommended Action   Click Yes if to add the interface. Click No to not add the interface.

Error Message   The group QoS Property qos property name will override the QoS Property of the member interfaces.

Explanation   Interfaces take on the group QoS Property characteristics when added to a group.

Recommended Action   Be aware that the interface QoS Property characteristics change when added to a group.

Error Message   There are policies defined for the device group group name that conflict with the new QoS Property qos property.

Distribution Manager Error Messages

Distribution Manager Log Messages are discribed in Chapter 7, "Reading the Log Messages."

Explanation   You are unable to connect to the QoS Manager service from a remote location. The Distribution Manger does not function if you are not connected to the QoS Manager.

Recommended Action   Verify the host is available on the network.

Recommended Action   None required.

Error Message   Unable to connect QoS Manager on qos manager host name.

Explanation   You are unable to connect to the QoS Manager service from a remote location. The Distribution Manger does not function if you are not connected to the QoS Manager.

Recommended Action   Verify the host is available on the network.

Error Message   Exiting Distribution Manager, Please wait.

Explanation   Advisory message that the Distribution Manager application is closing.

Recommended Action   None required.

Error Message   Reading commands from the device.

Explanation   Advisory message.

Recommended Action   None required.

Error Message   The string to find was not found.

Explanation   There was no match. The search string was not found.

Recommended Action   Check the search string for accuracy.

Error Message   Custom queue byte count exceeds the queue byte count limit.

Explanation   The queue byte count exceeds the calculated limit of 0xFFFFFF

Recommended Action   Reduce the interface packet size or decrease the custom queue ratio.
