This chapter describes the Dummy Network Adaptation module (DNAM).
This section provides a description of the DNAM, which is illustrated in Figure 6-1.
The DNAM fills the empty space (if any exists) in the ONS 15200 Multichannel Unit (MCU) between the NAM modules and the Communication Interface module (CIM). The DNAM is passive and does not include alarm or supervisory subunit functions, or front-panel indicators, connectors, or adjustments.
This section includes environmental and mechanical specifications for the DNAM. The DNAM is a passive device; therefore, optical and electrical specifications and default thresholds do not apply.
Environmental specifications for the DNAM during operating conditions are listed in Table 6-1.
The DNAM consists of one Network Adaptation module (NAM) dummy board with a dummy front panel.
Table 6-2 lists DNAM mechanical specifications.
This section explains how to remove and replace the DNAM. The replacement module and any supplies, such as tagging materials, should be present on site before beginning the removal and replacement procedures.
Warning The ONS 15252 Multichannel Unit (MCU) is energized with -48 VDC power. |
Caution Static electricity can damage electro-optical modules. While handling electro-optical modules, wear a grounding wrist strap to discharge the static buildup. Wrist straps are designed to prevent static electricity damage to equipment. |
The DNAM is installed in the ONS 15252 MCU just above the passive optical shelf.
Figure 6-2 shows DNAM placement in the MCU.
Warning Follow proper safety procedures when removing modules without switching off the relevant subrack. |
Step 2 Remove the DNAM by pulling it out along the slot.
Warning Follow proper safety procedures when removing modules without switching off the relevant subrack. |
Step 2 Slide the DNAM into the backplane. Take care not to damage the optical fiber.
Step 3 Using a slot or posidrive screwdriver, tighten the retaining screw securing the DNAM in the ONS 15252 MCU.
