The following error messages may appear when you are using the Cisco ESSE web browser interface. The likely cause of each message is provided, if known, with a suggestion on how to prevent further errors from occurring.
Error Message Unexpected data in reply from server.
Explanation There is a serious problem with your Cisco ESSE.
Recommended Action Call Cisco TAC immediately.
Error Message Error in processing request.
Explanation There is a serious problem with your Cisco ESSE.
Recommended Action Call Cisco TAC immediately.
Error Message Device is not reachable: timeout after maximum retries.
Explanation The requested Cisco ONT 1031 device is not reachable, which indicates that no response was received from the requested Cisco ONT 1031 device. The user request is eventually timed out after the maximum number of retries is reached.
Recommended Action Verify the connections between the Cisco ESSE and the desired Cisco ONT 1031.
Error Message Linkup or loopback read verification failed.
Explanation The requested Cisco ONT 1031 device is not in the intended operational state, which indicates that a prior user command (to enter PHY loopback mode, for example) failed to reach the desired Cisco ONT 1031 or wasn't carried out for some other reason.
Recommended Action Retry the switch between operational states.
Error Message Write verification failed.
Explanation There was a failure to write to the requested Cisco ONT 1031 register. The write result doesn't match the write request, which most likely indicates a system error.
Recommended Action Hard reset the Cisco ONT 1031, or restart the Cisco ESSE.
Error Message Device no longer exists in the database.
Explanation The requested Cisco ONT 1031 device doesn't exist in the system any more.
Recommended Action Check to see if it has been deleted accidentally by a different user.
Note You can refresh the Cisco ONT 1031 device list screen to get an updated Cisco ONT 1031 device list. |
Error Message Device has not been learned. Please refresh the Configuration screen and try again.
Explanation The requested Cisco ONT 1031 device has not been discovered by the Cisco ESSE, and you will not be able to perform any operation on it until it has been discovered. This message is most likely to appear when the Cisco ESSE is restarted but it has not finished discovering all Cisco ONT 1031s in the network, and at the same time the user attempts to perform an operation on an undiscovered Cisco ONT 1031 device.
Recommended Action Wait for the rediscovery process to finish.
Error Message Device is in PHY loopback mode. No config operations allowed.
Explanation The requested Cisco ONT 1031 device is in PHY loopback mode, so configuration operations are not allowed. The only valid operations allowed during PHY loopback mode are hard reset, switch to internal loopback, send echo request and other read requests.
Recommended Action Switch the Cisco ONT 1031 back to internal loopback mode before applying any configuration change.
Error Message Invalid configuration combination submitted.
Explanation The configuration parameter combination submitted to the requested Cisco ONT 1031 is invalid.
Recommended Action Double check the Cisco ONT 1031 configuration. The valid combination of configurations includes:
Error Message Request create failed: Too many outstanding requests.
Explanation A failure to issue a request to the Cisco ONT 1031 has occurred because there are too many outstanding requests in the system. This message is most likely to appear when too many Cisco ONT 1031s are assigned to a given Cisco ESSE. The system configuration should allow the Cisco ESSE to handle 2000 Cisco ONT 1031 devices simultaneously.
Recommended Action Wait for the congestion to clear, and try again. If your system is managing more than the recommended number of devices, move some of the devices to a new Cisco ESSE.
Error Message No devices learned yet.
Explanation The Cisco ESSE has either just been started or is currently performing rediscovery and hasn't yet discovered any Cisco ONT 1031 devices in the network; therefore, it can't perform any network-wide operations. The Cisco ESSE needs to discover at least one Cisco ONT 1031 before it can attempt any system-wide operation.
Error Message Device busy: Outstanding requests already pending.
Explanation This message would most likely appear when a user is attempting to delete a device and the requested Cisco ONT 1031 device has outstanding requests pending.
Recommended Action Make sure there are no pending requests to the Cisco ONT 1031 before you attempt to delete it.
Error Message Invalid or out-of-range watermark values.
Explanation The watermark value for the requested Cisco ONT 1031 is not valid.
Recommended Action Make sure it is within the valid range (between 0 and 124 Kb).
Error Message Server is down or not accessible.
Explanation The browser is unable to connect to the Cisco ESSE.
Recommended Action Restart services.
Error Message Error in processing request on server.
Explanation This message appears for all other failure cases not covered by other messages.
Recommended Action You may need to turn on debug logging and look in the l2nmpstack.log file for specific internal error messages.
Error Message No statistics data is available.
Explanation The selected device was added to the network less than 15 minutes ago, and no statistics are available yet.
Recommended Action Attempt to refresh the statistics for the device. This will cause the Cisco ESSE to poll the device for statistics since startup.
Error Message Discovery already in progress. Please wait until discovery is complete.
Explanation You can not start a network wide Cisco ONT 1031 discovery process while the previous round of network discovery is still in progress.
Recommended Action Wait for several minutes to make sure that current network discovery is finished before you start the next round of Cisco ONT 1031 discovery.
Error Message Statistics collection is still pending. Collection interval is too short.
Explanation The time needed to collect statistics is currently longer than the interval between collections.
Recommended Action Adjust the statistics collection time interval. Make sure that the previous round of statistics collection can be finished before next round of collection is started.
