New Features

Micro Webserver 200 new features include:

Applications

The Micro Webserver 200 enables you to publish Web pages, create a Web presence, and simplify Web site management reducing operational costs, increasing productivity, and enhancing your presence on the Web. Several sample applications follow, which take advantage of the Micro Webserver 200 features. The Micro Webserver 200 is ideal for small to medium-sized businesses as well as educational environments.

Virtual Web Library in an Educational System

In this example, a school wants to provide a library of information over the Web to assist teachers with developing course content and help students with homework and term papers. Most schools have limited funds and cannot afford the cost of a dedicated wide-area network (WAN) connection for Internet access during school hours.

The school can use a Micro Webserver 200 to create a virtual Web library. Commonly accessed information can be transferred to the Micro Webserver 200. Teachers and students can access information on the Web server and not on the Internet. This application reduces Internet access time and WAN costs. It also ensures that students cannot access inappropriate Web sites.

Documentation Server and Workgroup Intranet in a Law Firm

This example features a commercial law firm that wants to reduce the costs, maintenance, physical space and operational efforts required to house hundreds of legal documents and legal reference material. In addition, the firm would like quick and orderly access to in-house records.

Cisco System's solution is to use a Micro Webserver 200 as a Document Server and Workgroup intranet to access, transfer, copy, and store legal documents, reference materials, and in-house records.

Project Server in a Creative Services Agency

This example highlights a creative services agency that would like to quickly disseminate and share project plans, specifications, schedules, and design concepts with its employees and customers over the Web.

The agency can post all related project information as soon as it is available to a Micro Webserver 200, creating a Project Server. Now employees and customers can review, copy, update, and edit posted information in a more timely, cost-effective way.

Site Requirements

For the safe installation and operation of your system, ensure that your site is properly prepared before beginning installation. The Micro Webserver 200 can be placed on a desktop or mounted in a rack. The location of the Micro Webserver 200 and the layout of your equipment rack or wiring room are extremely important for proper system operation. Equipment placed too close together, inadequate ventilation, and inaccessible panels can cause system malfunctions and shutdowns and can make Micro Webserver 200 maintenance difficult.

Caution The Micro Webserver 200 is rated for an ambient temperature of 10 to 32 degrees Centigrade (50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit).

When planning your site layout and equipment locations, keep in mind the precautions described in the section, "Safety Guidelines." The following precautions will help you plan an acceptable operating environment for your Micro Webserver 200 and will help you avoid environmentally caused equipment failures:

Safety Guidelines

This section describes some basic safety procedures for working with your Micro Webserver 200. Read these guidelines and be cautious and safety conscious at all times when working with your product.
