This chapter describes how to install the Cisco Element Manager Framework (Cisco EMF) Data Migration Package and extract Cisco EMF Release 2.x objects for migration to the Cisco EMF Release 3.x system.
Before you install the data migration package, you should have:
If you want to upgrade your system software to Release 2.0.1 and you do not have a CD-ROM drive installed on your workstation, you must mount the CD on a remote system and then export the device to make it accessible over the network. These operations are done on the remote system where the CD-ROM drive exists. Then you must mount the remote CD-ROM drive on the local system where the installation is to take place. Follow these steps to mount a remote CD-ROM drive.
Step 2 Log in as superuser on the remote host and check to see if the Volume Manager is running. Type:
/usr/bin/ps -ef | grep vold
If the Volume Manager is:
root 591 1 0 Feb 26? 0:01 /usr/sbin/vold
/etc/rc2.d/S92volmgt start
Step 3 On the remote host, export the CD-ROM device as follows:
a. Start the NFS-related daemons. Type the following two lines:
/usr/lib/nfs/nfsd 8
/usr/lib/nfs/mountd
b. Share the mount point from the remote host. Type:
share -F nfs -o ro /cdrom/cdrom0
c. Verify that this host has made the CD-ROM drive accessible. Type:
share
Note The displayed list includes the /cdrom mount point. |
Step 4 Mount the remote CD-ROM on the local host from where the installation is to take place.
a. Create a mount point if none exists. Type:
mkdir /mnt/DMmnt
b. Mount the remote directory. Type:
mount -r remote-host: /cdrom/cdrom0 /mnt/DMmnt
Note Replace remote-host with the host name of the remote device. |
The contents of the CD should now be visible under the /mnt/DMmnt mount point.
The data migration package uses the dminstall command for the installation and uninstallation processes. Table 3-1 lists UNIX command options available that you enter in to execute a dminstall command.
Note You must be logged in as the superuser to use the dminstall command. |
dminstall | Displays the installation menu |
dminstall -choice or dminstall -c <choice> | Choose <choice> as the menu option |
dminstall -dir or dminstall -d [directory] | Provide the location of the packages |
dminstall -echoonly or dminstall -e | Does not run (only echo) commands |
dminstall -help or dminstall -help or dminstall -h | Displays the help information |
dminstall -remove or dminstall -r | Removes an existing installation |
dminstall -show or dminstall -s | Shows any package installed by dminstall |
dminstall -yestoall or dminstall -y | Answers Yes to all questions |
To install the data migration package, proceed as follows:
Step 2 Check to see if the Volume Manager is running. Type:
/usr/bin/ps -ef | grep vold
If the Volume Manager is:
root 591 1 0 Feb 26 ? 0 :01 /usr/sbin/vold
/etc/rc2.d/S92volmgt start
Step 3 Insert the data migration CD. Change directory into the cdrom area. Type:
cd /cdrom/cdrom0
Step 4 Run the install script ./dminstall.
Note If you do not log on as the superuser, this error message appears: ERROR: You must be root to run this Script. Log in as superuser and run the install script again. |
Step 5 A menu appears, listing installation options. Select the installation type you want, then press Enter. You are prompted to confirm the installation directory.
Because the Data Migration Documentation is in PDF format, you must use Acrobat Reader to open these documents. If you do not have Acrobat Reader installed on the workstation, you can install it now.
If other applications are packaged on the CD, additional options appear. If a package is already installed, the message **Already Installed** appears beside the option and the option to install that package is removed.
To uninstall the data migration package, follow these instructions:
Step 2 Type the following to run the install script:
DMROOT /bin/dmistall -remove
Substitute DMROOT with the directory to which the data migration package is installed on the workstation.
Step 3 The message Which package do you wish to remove? appears. Select the Data Migration package.
Step 4 The prompt Are you sure you wish to remove this package? appears. Type Y for yes. You are informed when the data migration package is successfully removed.
