Installing Cisco Cable Manager

Installing Cisco Cable Manager

This chapter describes the installation procedures for Cisco Cable Manager. Cisco IP Manager is optional and can be installed along with Cisco Cable Manager to provide configuration management features.

Cisco Cable Manager installation follows an installation script that checks the available disk space and prompts you to insert the required CD-ROMs.

There are three types of Cisco Cable Manager installations:

This chapter contains the following sections:

Installing Cisco Cable Manager without Cisco IP Manager Configuration Management

This installation procedure installs the following software on the server:

Complete the following tasks to install Cisco Cable Manager without Cisco IP Manager configuration management.

Note Cisco IP Manager is required for template-based configuration of Cisco uBR7200 series universal broadband routers. The default option can be selected for most installation prompts by pressing Enter.

Step 1 Log in as root user.

Step 2 Insert the Cisco Cable Manager CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 Copy the Cisco Cable Manager installation script to a directory on the server:

cp /cdrom/cdrom0/installCableMgr [server_directory]

Step 4 Go to the specified directory and enter:

./installCableMgr

The Cisco Cable Manager installation script runs and checks the available disk space. The minimum free disk space required is:

If not enough disk space is available, cancel the installation and ensure adequate disk space is available before running the installation script.

The Cisco Cable Manager installation script also checks if the CEMF and CEMF/EM are already installed. If not already installed, the Cisco Cable Manager installation script will prompt you to select and install these components.

Step 5 When prompted, insert the Cisco Element Manager Framework (CEMF) CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

The Cisco Cable Manager installation script prompts you to specify if the following components are to be installed:

Step 6 At the Package Installation page, enter SR for the CEMF server (AVM) and CEMF client packages.

The Cisco Cable Manager installation script prompts you for:

The Cisco EMF server and client software are installed.

Step 7 When prompted, insert the Cisco Event Manager (CEMF/EM) CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 8 At the Package Installation page, enter S for the CEMF/EM server (EVm) and EM client packages.

When prompted for the AccessVision Flex LM, select N for the license file prompt. The license file will be installed automatically with the installation script. Selecting Yes starts the Flex LM daemon.

The complete installation installs the following software on the server:

Cisco Cable Manager also includes CiscoView for Cisco uBR7200 series universal broadband routers and cable modems.

The following installation log files are stored in the /tmp directory and show a record of the installed components:

These installation log files can be removed whenever the system is rebooted. To avoid losing these files, copy them to another directory for permanent storage.

Note The collect_sys_info script can be run on the Cisco Cable Manager server to display server resource statistics such as disk usage, memory, swap space, and other data. This script file is stored in the /opt/CSCOcem directory. The output of this script file is stored in the /tmp/collect_sys_info.log directory.

Installing Cisco Cable Manager Client

The Cisco Cable Manager client is required to support more than five simultaneous Cisco Cable Manager user sessions. To enable additional user sessions, the Cisco EMF and Cisco Cable Manager client-only software is installed on a separate UNIX server. The Cisco Cable Manager client is then configured to connect to the Cisco Cable Manager server.

Note Cisco Cable Manager server supports up to five simultaneous users. If more than five simultaneous user sessions are required, a Cisco Cable Manager client can be added to the network to provide an additional five simultaneous user sessions. Expanding on this architecture, additional Cisco Cable Manager clients can be added.

To install the Cisco EMF and Cisco Cable Manager client software, complete the following procedures on the client device:

Step 1 Log in as root user.

Step 2 Insert the Cisco Cable Manager CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 Copy the Cisco Cable Manager installation script to a directory on the server:

Step 11 When prompted, insert the Cisco Cable Manager CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 12 At the Add Package page, enter C for the Cisco Cable Manager client-only package.

The complete installation installs the following software on the server:

The following installation log files are stored in the /tmp directory and show a record of the installed components:

These installation log files can be removed whenever the system is rebooted. To avoid losing these files, copy them to another directory for permanent storage.

Uninstalling Cisco Cable Manager

Cisco Cable Manager needs to be uninstalled before the software can be reinstalled or an upgrade version installed.

Uninstalling Cisco Cable Manager Server and Client

To uninstall Cisco Cable Manager server or client:

Step 1 Log in to the Cisco Cable Manager server as root user.
