To manage a network of LightStream 2020 multiservice ATM switches (LS2020 switches), you run the StreamView network management application on a workstation that functions in the capacity of a network management system (NMS). The NMS, which can be a Sun SPARCstation or a member of the HP/Apollo Series 700 family of workstations, provides the means for configuring, monitoring, and controlling LS2020 switches in your network.
The hardware requirements for running StreamView on an NMS are outlined below:
The StreamView network management application embodies a number of discrete modules that enable the user to configure, monitor, and control an entire network of LS2020 switches. Thus, StreamView, with its complement of fully-integrated network management modules, is the primary network management tool for an LS2020 network.
CiscoView, also a network management facility available for use with the LS2020, but less inclusive in its functionality, is a GUI-based, device management application that displays a real-time physical view of an LS2020 switch. CiscoView provides dynamic status, statistics, and configuration information for an LS2020 switch.
The requirements for using these LS2020 network management facilities are presented in separate sections below.
To use the StreamView network management application, the following software must be installed on the NMS hard disk:
You have the option of running HP OpenView on the NMS in conjunction with StreamView. If you elect to run HP OpenView with StreamView, the following version information is applicable:
For more information about HP OpenView operating requirements, see the HP OpenView Management Platform Performance and Configuration Guide.
The CiscoView network management application, which displays in color a real-time graphical representation of an LS2020 switch, can be run on a variety of platforms, including the following:
In addition, CiscoView has been tested in conjunction with the following network management platforms:
