This document provides the necessary steps to execute and run an Online Offline Diagnostic (OOD) Field Diagnostic test on the Cisco 10000 Series Router. This document does not detail the various methods of performing the test or other testing and test verification options. In most cases, the User's Guide will have to be used to run and interpret Field Diagnostic tests on the Cisco 10000 series router due to the many Field Diagnostic testing options.

Note OOD Field Diagnostic tests are referred to as Field Diagnostic tests for the rest of this document.

For detailed information about Field Diagnostic on the Cisco 10000 Series Router, or if you are having problems executing the test described in this document, see the Online Offline Diagnostics—Field Diagnostics on the Cisco 10000 Series User's Guide document.

The test described in this document has the following attributes:

default, autostarted test

Field Diagnostic image is downloaded from TFTP

Step 1 Ensure your system meets the following requirements:

The line card being tested is compatible with the PRE1 or PRE2.

9 MB available on the TFTP server for the Field Diagnostic image.

a supported Cisco IOS release. The release notes for the Field Diagnostic image document minimum IOS release support for a particular Field Diagnostic image.

Step 2 Download the Field Diagnostic image onto a TFTP server. The Field Diagnostic image can be loaded from the following URL:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ubr10kfielddiag

The Field Diagnostic image can be downloaded by clicking the Field Diagnostic image and browsing to your TFTP server.

Step 3 Enter the diagnostic load {slot slot-number | subslot slot-number/subslot-number} tftp://path autostart command to load the Field Diagnostic image onto the line card and begin Field Diagnostic testing. This test will automatically start the default test suite.

In the following example, a diagnostic image is loaded onto the line card in slot 2 and Field Diagnostic testing begins immediately.

Router# diagnostic load slot 2 tftp://1.0.0.253/myfolder/c10k-fdiagslc-mz.1.1.bin autostart

Step 4 If desired, enter show diagnostic result to review the test results when testing is completed.

Step 5 If all tests passed and you would now like to perform a full Field Diagnostic test, enter the diagnostic start {slot slot-number | subslot slot-number/subslot-number} test all command.

Note The all Field Diagnostic test suite requires that all of the interfaces on the router are cabled for external loopback testing. If you have any questions regarding external loopback testing, see the Online Offline Diagnostics—Field Diagnostics on the Cisco 10000 Series User's Guide document.

Step 6 If you ran the all Field Diagnostic test suite, enter show diagnostic result to review the test results. Copy the show diagnostic result command output into a separate file along with any error messages on the screen if your Field Diagnostic test failed and contact Cisco customer support with this information.

Step 7 If all of your tests passed, enter the diagnostic unload command to unload the Field Diagnostic image from the line card. If the Field Diagnostic tests passed, normal line card operation will resume. If any Field Diagnostic test failed, call Cisco.

In the following example, the Field Diagnostic image is unloaded from the line card in slot 2 and normal line card operation will resume if all tests passed.

Router# diagnostic unload slot 2
