OOD Field Diagnostic Image Overview
An OOD Field Diagnostic image is used to test and verify hardware problems. An OOD Field Diagnostic image is downloaded from Cisco.com onto the hardware that needs to be tested. It is important to note that a single version of a Field Diagnostic image can work on multiple Cisco IOS release trains.
For instructions on using an OOD Field Diagnostic image on a Cisco 10000 series router, see the Online Offline Diagnostics—Field Diagnostics on Cisco 10000 Series Routers User's Guide.
Field Diagnostic Image 2.0 Enhancements
The following functionality is available in Field Diagnostic Image 2.0 for the first time:
•Field Diagnostic testing support for the 4-Port Channelized Half-Height T3 line card was introduced.
•Field Diagnostic testing support for the 4-Port OC-3/STM-1 ATM
line card with long-reach optics was introduced.•Some caveats that existed in Field Diagnostic Image 1.1 were corrected.
Hardware and Software Requirements
The following tables provide information regarding which hardware can be tested using OOD Field Diagnostic image 2.0 and the Cisco IOS release where support for this hardware was added. Table 1 provides the list of line cards that can be tested using this Field Diagnostic image when the line cards are being used in a Cisco 10000 series router.

Memory Requirements
The following memory requirements must be met in order to properly install the required Cisco IOS and OOD Field Diagnostic image that are required to run OOD Field Diagnostic tests:
•9.5 MB available on the TFTP server for the OOD Field Diagnostic image
Testing Times
The following table provides the estimated amount of time required to run each type of test on a specific line card. Please note that these times are estimates only and are meant to provide information to individuals trying to decide which diagnostic test suite should be run. The actual testing times can vary significantly in real-world environments.

External Loopback Test on Channelized T3 Line Card Notes
For the Channelized T3 line card, external loopback tests cannot be run using the port keyword option in the diagnostic start command. Instead, external loopback tests can be run on Channelized T3 line cards by specifying the test IDs that are mapped to specific interfaces on the router. The process for running an external loopback test on a Channelized T3 line card is given below:
Step 1 Cable the CT3 line card for external loopback testing.
Step 2 Enter the show diagnostic content command and locate the tests that contain the L attribute. In the following example, test IDs 119-142 are all external loopback tests. If you want to run a specific external loopback test, note the ports that are supported by tests (for example, if you want to run external loopback tests on port 1, select test IDs 123-126).
