Online Offline Diagnostics—System Error Messages for Field Diagnostics

This document provides an explanation and a recommended action for each error message that appears on the console while using the OOD Field Diagnostics product.

Error Message

%DIAG_C10K-2-CREATE_FAIL : Couldn't create [chars]

Explanation    An internal software error occurred.

Recommended Action    This error often occurs at times when heavy traffic loads are consuming large amounts of memory on the system. If possible, retry the process that caused the error at a time when less traffic is being passed on the system. Another option is to upgrade SDRAM on the system. If this message recurs or neither of these options are viable, copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console and gather the output of show tech-support and contact your technical support representative with this information.

Error Message

%DIAG_C10K-5-EXIT_ON_ERR : Field Diagnostics is stopped for card in slot [chars] due to test failure

Explanation    A test failure was detected and diagnostic testing stopped. Diagnostic testing was configured to stop when a test failure occurred.

Recommended Action    Nothing. The system is performing according to it's configuration so no user action is required. If you want diagnostic testing to continue after a test failure is detected, use the diagnostic ondemand action-on-error command and change the error-count setting.

Error Message

%DIAG_C10K-5-EXIT_ON_FAIL_LIMIT : Field Diagnostics is stopped for card in slot [chars] as failure limit is reached

Explanation    Diagnostic testing has been stopped because the test failure limit has been reached.

Recommended Action    Nothing. The system is performing according to it's configuration so no user action is required. If you want diagnostic testing to continue after more errors are detected, use the diagnostic ondemand action-on-error command to change the error-count setting.

Error Message

%DIAG_C10K-3-FD_BAD_IMAGE : Field Diagnostics image is corrupted

Explanation    The indicated Field Diagnostic image has been corrupted.

Recommended Action    Ensure your downloading the correct Field Diagnostic image for your line card and get a new Field Diagnostic image from cisco.com if necessary. Retry the download.

Error Message

%DIAG_C10K-3-FD_BOOT_FAIL : Failed to boot Field Diagnostics image for card in slot [chars] after [dec] seconds

Explanation    The Field Diagnostics image failed to boot on the target line card.

Recommended Action    Retry loading the Field Diagnostic image onto the line card by entering the diagnostic load command. If the error recurs when retrying the Field Diagnostic loading process, get another Field Diagnostic image from cisco.com and attempt to load the new Field Diagnostic image onto the line card. If the new Field Diagnostic image is rejected, copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console and gather the output of show tech-support and contact your Cisco technical support representative with the gathered information.

Error Message

%DIAG_C10K-3-FD_CHECKSUM_ERR : Invalid checksum. Please make sure that you have indicated a valid Field Diagnostics image

This Field Diagnostic image crash can occur when a test is not running, while a test is running, or while the line card is booting the Field Diagnostic image. If this message is received, the line card DOS image will be restored in place of the Field Diagnostic image.

Recommended Action    The recommended action depends on when the message occurred. If this message occurred because the hw-module target reset command was entered while loading the Field Diagnostic image onto the line card, no action is needed as this is normal router behavior. If this message occurred while tests were not taking place, download a new Field Diagnostic image from cisco.com and load the new Field Diagnostic image. If this message occurred while a test was underway, copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console and gather the output of show tech-support and contact your technical support representative with the gathered information.

Error Message
