This chapter guides you through the installation and configuration of the Cisco AccessPath-TS3 Integrated Access System hardware. For more information, refer to the section "Tools for Installation" in the chapter "Preparing for Installation."
To install the AccessPath-TS3 system at your site, refer to the sections below and follow the procedures:
The AccessPath-TS3 system is shipped inside a thick cardboard crate, which also contains a wooden ramp used to roll the AccessPath-TS3 system off of the shipping pallet. To uncrate the AccessPath-TS3 system, follow these steps:
Remove the bottom half of the crating in a similar fashion.
Note If the Tip (n) Tell arrow point is blue, the crate has been on its side or tipped over in transit. Make a note of this on the bill of lading and check for damage. Any claims for tipping depend on this notation.
Note If the Shockwatch indicator is red, the crate has been subjected to rough handling. Make a note of this on the bill of lading and check for damage. Any claims for rough handling depend on this notation.
Step 2 Remove the wooden uncrating ramp from the side of the pallet and lock it in place at the front of the pallet. See Figure 3-1.
Step 3 Remove the front retainer used to keep the AccessPath-TS3 system from rolling off its pallet in transit. (See Figure 3-2.)
Step 4 Uninstall the earthquake safety plate that attaches the AccessPath-TS3 system to the pallet. Save the earthquake safety plate and its bolts. You will need to reinstall the plate when you have the AccessPath-TS3 system in its permanent location. (See Figure 3-3 and Figure 3-4.)
Step 5 Roll the AccessPath-TS3 cabinet off its pallet. (See Figure 3-5.)
In order to prevent the AccessPath-TS3 system from moving during an earthquake, you must secure it using the earthquake safety plate. Even if you are installing the AccessPath-TS3 system in an area that does not usually have earthquakes, you should still take this precaution so that the AccessPath-TS3 system does not move accidentally.
Use the dimensions in Figure 3-6 to drill holes in the floor where the earthquake safety plate will be installed.
Follow these steps to install the earthquake safety plate and system cabinet:
Step 2 Bolt the safety plate to the floor with anchoring bolts you provide.
Step 3 Roll the AccessPath-TS3 cabinet over the safety plate.
Step 4 Secure the AccessPath-TS3 system cabinet to the safety plate using the nuts and bolts from the shipping pallet. (See Figure 3-7.)
Although the AccessPath-TS3 system arrives precabled, you should make sure all the cables are connected and that they are properly seated. For an AC system, check the following components starting at the top of the rack:
3. Router Shelf(s)depending on configuration
For a DC system, check the following shelves starting at the top of the rack:
4. Router Shelf(s)depending on configuration
The procedure for checking the shelves is as follows:
Note For complete listings of AccessPath-TS3 system cable connections and cable assembly diagrams and pinouts, refer to the appendix "Cabling Specifications for the Cisco AccessPath-TS3 Model 530 Integrated Access System."
These cables should be connected to the SCSI II 68-pin asynchronous ports on the left of the System Controller as follows:
Make sure these cables are connected and properly seated. (See Figure 3-8.)
Step 2 Make sure the cables on each of the Access Server Shelves are connected and properly seated. This cabling is, from left to right across each Access Server Shelf, as follows:
Step 3 Release the power and connector cables from the ties binding them in the cable housing and connect them as shown in Figure 3-9.
Note Refer to Table 3-1 for connection numbers and cable information.
Connection Number | Cable Labeling | Access Server Shelf Connection |
---|---|---|
Step 4 Check the cabling on the Router Shelf (or shelves). Each Router Shelf should have a 100BaseT cable connecting its Fast Ethernet port to the Switch Shelf. Make sure these cables are connected and properly seated. (See Figure 3-10.)
Step 5 Check the cabling on the Switch Shelf. The Switch Shelf should have:
Step 6 Make sure these cables are connected and properly seated. (See Figure 3-11.)
Connecting power involves three steps:
Step 2 Check the power connection matrix.
Step 3 Perform one of the following procedures depending on whether your system was shipped with AC or DC power:
Table 3-2 summarizes customer power requirements for the various configurations of the AccessPath-TS3 system in a single-router environment.
Note We recommend that you use seven 20A circuits for maximum power distribution. This helps guarantee power redundancy for the Router Shelf and Switch Shelf.
Table 3-3 summarizes the power requirements for the various configurations of the AccessPath-TS3 system in a dual-router environment.
Table 3-4 summarizes the maximum power requirements for planning and scaling the configuration of the Cisco AccessPath-TS3 Model 530 Integrated Access System. You can use this information to plan for system scaling. Your power requirements will vary with the number of Access Server Shelves and routers in your AccessPath-TS3 system.
This section provides power distribution and connection information for the AccessPath-TS3 system. AC power cabling is configured before the AccessPath-TS3 system is shipped. However, if you add or remove AccessPath-TS3 system shelves, you will need to refer to the matrix in Table 3-5.
For an AccessPath-TS3 system equipped for AC power, the power is supplied to the various shelves through seven power strips located on the right side of the AccessPath-TS3 system, inside the front door.
Follow the steps below to connect AC power to the AccessPath-TS3 system.
Figure 3-12 shows an AccessPath-TS3 system power strip.
Step 2 Connect each of the power strips to a separate grounded power source.
Figure 3-13 shows the location of the power strips within the AccessPath-TS3 system.
Power supplies are connected to specific power receptacles. This simplifies connections and preserves the Router Shelf and Switch Shelf redundant power configurations. (Redundant power supplies are connected to different power strips.)
Table 3-5 shows the connection matrix and power requirements for the AccessPath-TS3 system. Use the information in this table when adding or removing AccessPath-TS3 system shelves.
Power Receptacle | Total Amps | Component | Cable Length | Btus Per Tray | Amps Per Tray |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
For an AccessPath-TS3 system equipped for DC power, the power is supplied to the various shelves through a DC fuse panel that comes with the AccessPath-TS3 system and is installed in the system cabinet. For more information on the DC fuse panel, refer to the document Installing DC Fuse Panels in the Cisco AccessPath-TS3 Integrated Access System that accompanied this product.
Table 3-6 shows DC power distribution in the AccessPath-TS3. Total voltage to the system is 48 VDC.
Follow these steps to verify power and physical connectivity for the AccessPath-TS3 system:
Step 2 Verify connectivity. Be sure to wait 60 seconds from power-up for all devices to initialize.
Step 3 Check the power OK LEDs on each of the shelves. At initial startup, the OK LEDs should flash on. After all devices have initialized, the LEDs should remain on. If they do, each shelf is functioning properly. Refer to Figure 3-14 through Figure 3-17 for the location of the OK LEDs on each shelf.
Step 4 Check the connection to the AccessPath-TS3 system from the telco. All three LEDs for each of the T1 or E1 lines feeding into the Access Server Shelves should be off. In addition, the OK and ACT LEDs should be on.
Step 5 Check the connections between the shelves in the AccessPath-TS3 system.
Step 6 Check the 10BaseT connection between the Access Server Shelves and the Router Shelf (or Shelves depending on the configuration). Verify that the link status LEDs on the Access Server Shelves and on the Router Shelf (or Shelves, depending on the configuration) are on.
Step 7 Check the 100BaseT connection between the Access Server Shelves and the Switch Shelf. Verify that the link status LED on the Access Server Shelves is on. Verify that the Link LED on the Switch Shelf is on.
Step 8 Check the 100BaseTX connections between the Router Shelves and the Switch Shelf. Verify that the link status LED is on at each end of the cable. For interfaces with media-independent interface transceivers, the link status is on the transceiver.
Step 9 Check the connection with your network. This connection is device dependent but should have some Saratov link status on the port adapter or related transceiver that will indicate connectivity.

The software configuration of the AccessPath-TS3 system will have been done for you at the factory. Using the System Controller, you should verify the configuration or configure the system (depending on which is required for your AccessPath-TS3 system), use these steps:
Step 2 Use Cisco IOS software or the AccessPath Manager software to verify the software configuration or configure the AccessPath-TS3 system.
Take the following steps to connect a local terminal (an ASCII terminal or a PC running terminal emulation software) to the console port on the router:
Step 2 Configure your terminal or PC terminal emulation software for 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit.
Take the following steps to connect a modem to the auxiliary port on the System Controller:
Step 2 Make sure that your modem and the console port on the System Controller are configured for the same transmission speed (38,400 baud is typical) and hardware flow control with Data Carrier Detect (DCD) and Data Terminal Ready (DTR) operations.
Use Cisco IOS software or the AccessPath Manager software to verify the software configuration of IP addresses and interfaces or, if necessary, use one of the packages to configure the AccessPath-TS3 system.
Refer to the following documents:
To connect to the T1 or E1 network coming into your installation, use the appropriate instructions in the following sections.
Connections from the AccessPath-TS3 system to a T1 network are made through a patch panel.
Step 2 Use RJ-48C cables to connect from the back of the patch panel to port 0, port 1, port 2, and port 3 on the quad T1/PRI cards in the AccessPath-TS3 system's Access Server Shelves.
Connect the E1 line to the front of the DS1 patch panel (the side closest to the front door of the AccessPath-TS3 system). You can do this using RJ-48C connectors or a wire wrap tool to wire wrap into the patch panel.
Port adapter slot 2 of the Router Shelf is reserved for connection to your LAN or WAN. The slot can have either of two types of card:
After installing the correct port adapter in slot 2, be sure to configure it properly.
This completes the hardware installation. If you have problems, see the appendix, "Troubleshooting the Cisco AccessPath-TS3 Model 530 Integrated Access System."
