Preface

Preface

This preface describes who should read the Cisco Cache Software Configuration Guide, how it is organized, and its document conventions. This preface contains the following sections:

Document Objectives

This guide explains how to perform an initial configuration of the Cisco Cache software on a Cisco Content Engine and how to enable your router to work with the Content Engine.

This guide focuses on using the Cisco Cache software. Although configuring a router to use WCCP is discussed, this guide does not provide detailed information about the Cisco IOS software. Refer to the Cisco IOS software publications for detailed information about configuring routers.

Audience

This guide assumes you are familiar with basic TCP/IP and networking concepts, router configuration, and your enterprise network configuration.

This guide includes the following chapters:

Contains the procedures for installing the Content Engine on your network.

Contains the procedures for keeping your Content Engine in good condition.

Web Cache Communication Protocol Version 2

Describes WCCP Version 2.

This guide uses basic conventions to represent text and table information.

Convention Description

boldface font

Commands and keywords are in boldface.

italic font

Variables for which you supply values are in italics.

screen font

Terminal sessions and information the system displays are printed in screen font.

boldface screen font

Information you must enter is in boldface screen font.

italic screen font

Variables you enter are printed in italic screen font.

Elements in braces are required input.

Elements in square brackets are optional.

Required alternative keywords are grouped in braces and separated by vertical bars.

Note   Means reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to materials not contained in the manual.


Caution   Means reader be careful. In this situation, you might do something that could result in equipment damage or loss of data.

World Wide Web

Documentation CD-ROM

Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM is updated monthly. Therefore, it is probably more current than printed documentation. The CD-ROM package is available as a single unit or as an annual subscription.

Ordering Documentation

Registered CCO users can order the Documentation CD-ROM and other Cisco Product documentation through our online Subscription Services at http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/subcat/kaojump.cgi.

Obtaining Technical Assistance

Cisco provides Cisco Connection Online (CCO) as a starting point for all technical assistance. Warranty or maintenance contract customers can use the Technical Assistance Center. All customers can submit technical feedback on Cisco documentation using the web, e-mail, a self-addressed stamped response card included in many printed docs, or by sending mail to Cisco.

Technical Assistance Center
