This preface describes:
This guide contains information on planning for, installing, configuring, using, and troubleshooting the Cisco Cache Engine. The Cisco Cache Engine works with a router running the Cisco IOS software with the Web Cache Control Protocol. The Cache Engine caches web pages retrieved from the Internet or intranet, so that subsequent requests for the same page can be satisfied from local storage. This potentially speeds the retrieval of web pages and reduces the bandwidth required for your Internet connection.
This document focuses on using the Cache Engines. Although configuring a router to use the Web Cache Control Protocol is covered, this document does not discuss the Cisco IOS software in detail. See the Cisco IOS software publications for detailed information about configuring routers.
This book assumes you are familiar with basic TCP/IP and networking concepts, router configuration, and your enterprise's network.
