Server Rebuild Instructions


This appendix contains the procedure for restoring the system to the shipping configuration.


Caution

All data on the system is lost when you follow this procedure.


You need to obtain the following floppy disk and CD that came with the 3400 Series Servers system:

Follow these steps to restore the system to shipping configuration:


Step 1   Insert the floppy disk into the floppy disk drive and start the system unit or reset the system if it is already running.

Step 2   At the DOS prompt A:\, enter fdisk and press Return.

Step 3   After the first screen is displayed, accept the default by pressing Return.

Step 4   In the next screen, enter 3 and press Return.

Step 5   In the next screen, enter 4 and press Return.

Step 6   Verify that you want to complete the action by pressing Return.

Step 7   Press Escape and then enter 1.

Step 8   Use the defaults and press Return for the next three prompts and then press the reset switch.

Step 9   At the DOS prompt A:\, enter format C: and press Return.

Step 10   You are asked to confirm this action. Enter Y and press Return.

It takes approximately two minutes to format the drive. At this point, you may put the CD in the CD-ROM drive.

Step 11   Enter the following information for the specific device you are rebuilding.

Step 12   Verify that you want to complete the above step by entering Y and then pressing Return.

Step 13   After the WINDOWS NT Setup screen appears, remove the floppy disk. If you forget to remove the floppy you will see a DOS prompt. At this point, remove the floppy disk and reset the unit. The installation will continue.

The installation procedure takes about 30 minutes. Three times during the procedure you are prompted to press a specific key:

The prompts appear midway through the installation and within a short period of time of each other. After the installation is complete, refer to the chapter "Customizing the Server Configuration."
