Introduction

A Cisco Content Distribution Network (CDN) is a collection of devices that together significantly improve the delivery of web content to users of the Internet when users type in a URL in a browser. A Cisco CDN includes three types of devices: one or more Content Engines, one or more Content Routers, and one Content Distribution Manager.

The Cisco CDN Software that is installed on the Content Distribution Manager provides a web-based interface that you use for managing and monitoring your CDNs.

System Requirements

Cisco CDN Software Service Provider Edition Version 1.0 operates with the Content Distribution Manager 4670, the Content Router 4450, the Content Engine 590, and the Content Engine 7320.

Workstations for accessing the web-based interface

You interact with Cisco CDN Software Service Provider Edition using the Cisco CDN Software Service Provider Edition web-based graphical interface that's installed on the Content Distribution Manager. The following minimum hardware and software requirements apply to each machine that will be used as a workstation for accessing the graphical interface:

Database Management System

Cisco CDN Software Service Provider Edition requires that the Oracle 8i database management system (DBMS) be installed on your host network. You must purchase Oracle 8i from Oracle. The Content Distribution Manager uses an Oracle database for persistent storage of system information and statistics. The DBMS requirement is:

Domain Name System

Cisco CDN Service Provider Edition uses the Domain Name System (DNS) system to route requests to Content Engines. To serve content in your CDN, you must configure DNS. For information, see the Cisco CDN Software Service Provider Edition Configuration Guide.

FTP Server

You need an FTP server if you want to enable remote logging. For information, see online Help or the Cisco CDN Software Service Provider Edition User Guide.

SNMP Manager

You need an SNMP manager if you want to monitor system statistics using SNMP. For information about licensing SystemEDGE so you can use the SystemEDGE SNMP manager, see the Cisco CDN Software Service Provider Edition Configuration Guide.

Caveats

Internet Explorer Version 5.5 Not Supported

Use of the Cisco CDN Software's web-based interface with Internet Explorer Version 5.5 or higher is not supported.

Obtaining Technical Assistance

Cisco provides Cisco Connection Online (CCO) as a starting point for all technical assistance. Warranty or maintenance contract customers can use the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). All customers can submit technical feedback on Cisco documentation using the web, e-mail, a self-addressed stamped response card included in many printed documents, or by sending mail to Cisco.
