Overview

The installation of a Cisco MGX 8260 media gateway requires careful planning.

Physical installation encompasses unloading, moving, positioning, and securing the chassis and other peripheral components. Power feeds and a ground circuit must be attached. WAN and LAN lines are then connected to MGX 8260 components.

Following power up, MGX 8260 configuration settings must be edited to match site requirements. The initial database is then constructed so that test calls can be made. Finally, the customer and deployment team complete the acceptance testing process.

Prerequisites

Prior to beginning the installation process, the installation site should be prepared as described in "Preparing the Installation Site."

Physical installation requires that the following items be reviewed, certified as acceptable, modified and/or constructed:

System location, clearances and access
Seismic anchoring requirements
Power feeds and backup capacity
HVAC capacity
WAN and LAN cabling

Initial configuration of the MGX 8260 will require the following information:

IP addresses for all extranet connections
Carrier-specific operating parameters, including access codes, dial numbered provisioning and signaling interfaces

Installation Process

The installation process spans physical setup through initial database configuration. The sequence of installation events includes:

Physical installation

Unpack and inspect the MGX 8260
Move the MGX 8260 to its location
Secure the MGX 8260 to the rack
Connect cabling
Connect power and ground
Complete network connections

Initial power up

Power up the MGX 8260
Examine status LEDs

Configuration

Set IP addresses for console and management interfaces
