These release notes summarize the functions of the Cisco MGX 8240 Private Line Service Gateway switch software, Release 2.2.0.3. These notes describe new features and enhancements as well as a list of known caveats that have been fixed and verified since the previous deployed Release (1.1.2.10). The document also lists open caveats.
These notes are intended for customer functional and operational groups and Cisco System Engineers responsible for installing and provisioning the Cisco MGX 8240 Private Line Service Gateway.
The Cisco MGX 8240 Private Line Service Gateway systems previously shipped are to be upgraded to the new switch software.
The purpose of this release is to resolve problems found in the switch functions. Therefore, there are no new features as part of this release.
The following fixes and enhancements have been incorporated into Release 2.2.0.3:
The software upgrade procedure supports the following Switch Software Releases:
Note All Releases prior to Release 1.1.2.10 must first be upgraded to Release1.1.2.10 using the upgrade procedure for Release 1.1.2.10, before this Release can be applied. |
Before the Cisco MGX 8240 CPE software can be upgraded, the VCLI must first be upgraded to Version 2.1.0 or higher. Separate documents provide release notes for the VCLI and information on upgrade procedures for the VCLI.
Finally, the Cisco MGX 8240 CPE can be upgraded from Release 1.1.2.10 directly to Relesae 2.2.0.3 or from Release 2.1.0.6 to Release 2.2.0.3 using the Upgrade Procedure provided in the accompanying documentation.
The following bugs that existed in Release 2.2.0.1 have been fixed and verified in Release 2.2.0.3.
DDTS Number | SeveritySeveSrity | Functional Area | Problem Description | Corrected
Dp31145 | 2 | DS1 | DS3 Receive Yellow Alarm caused trunk conditioning on all DS1s. | Trunk conditioning is no longer sent in this case. | Fixed. |
Dp18470 | 2 | BERT | Second Circuit BERT on same circuit/DS1 fails. | Now supported. | Fixed. |
Dm83980 | 2 | Reference Clock | Setting force free run to same value causes inadvertent clock switch. | Setting to same value now has no effect. | Fixed |
Dp18436 | 2 | Upgrade | Stale directories and files cause upgrade failures. | Stale directories removed; stale files ignored. | Fixed |
Dp18901 | 2 | Alarms | Alarm Entity Id has new format. | To handle the Access OC3 and provide a scheme that grows for future releases, the string format was modified. | The format had to be changed. Future changes are not anticipated. |
The following bugs that existed in Release 2.1.0.6 were fixed and verified in Release 2.2.0.1.
DDTS Number | SeveritySeveSrity | Functional Area | Problem Description | Corrected
Dm77697 | 2 | Mfg record | Switch manufacturing record is not available for reading. | Mfg record is now reported. | Fixed |
Dm77794 | 2 | Statistics | The SONET FarEnd Line 24Hr UAS Threshold can not be set. | Will be fixed in FCS release. | Defaulted to 10 secs |
Cisco MGX 8240 CPE/CS3 Switch software (Release 2.2.0.1) has some known problems. Every attempt has been made to address and resolve the problems of high severity. Below are the lists of known bugs that exist in the Cisco MGX 8240 system, including all outstanding problems related to the CES modules and associated I/O ports. The second column is the defect severity. A number 0 represents the greatest severity, while 5 is the least severe.
DDTS Number | SeveritySeveSrity | Functional Area | Problem Description | Corrected
Sn04840 | 1 | Switch Shaping | Policing on Ascend 550 causes inband cells to be dropped because Maximum Burst Size(MBS) is not configurable and fixed to 1024 cells. | Do not turn on policing at Ascend, or set it to 1024 cells. | Same as 1.1.1.2 |
Sn04752 | 3 | Switch Craft Interface | Double ESC required to exit from DS1 statistics window on Craft Interface. |
| Same as 1.1.1.2 |
Sn05174 | 0 | Xyplex | FTP failed sometimes due to Xyplex's problem. | Pending on Xyplex new fix. | Same as 1.1.1.11 |
Sn05203 | 2 | BERT | Circuit will not pass data if it is created while DS1s on both ends of a local circuit are under BERT. | Workaround: Delete and create the circuit again after the BERT is stopped. | Same as 1.1.1.11 |
Sn05554 | 1 | FE Loopback | If the user manipulates the far-end DS1 loop modes more rapidly than the 1.5 second (the loop send code duration time), the far-end Larscom CSU/DSU and the Cisco MGX 8240 DS1 port are both in a loop up mode. Once this happens, the loop down command issued from Sentient NMS is unable to take Larscom CSU/DSU out of a loop.
| Workaround: 1. On NMS go to the port's Near End Loopback. Invoke a Near End Loopback, then drop the loop. 2. Go to the Far End Loopback and invoke the loop first and then drop it.
| Bug found in 1.1.2.10 |
DDTS Number | SeveritySeveSrity | Functional Area | Problem Description | Corrected
Sn05204 | 0 | Switch Redundancy | Redundant switchover ftp process gives no indication to the user when it is done. | New states added | Fixed |
Sn05010 | 1 | Alarm | Two loop timed OC3 ports connected together can cause alarm and SNMP storm. | Alarm is now integrated. | Fixed |
Sn05271 | 1 | Alarm | For OC3 port 2 changing from admin state up to test does not clear alarms. But for OC3 port 1 it does. | Alarms now cleared | Fixed |
Sn05512 | 1 | Loopback | Switch responds to DS1 far-end line loop request by looping errored data. | Now using payload loop | Fixed |
Sn05518 | 1 | Loopback | Taking DS1 or DS3 ports out of test does not clear the loops. | Loops now cleared | Fixed |
Sn05293 | 1 | Trunk Conditioning | For SF mode robbed bit, voice non-transparant, signalling CD bits are not ignored. | CD Bits are now ignored in this mode | Fixed |

Dm61874 | 2 | Port State | When using OC3 IO, STS Path LOP and Label Mismatch will not automatically show a problem in the contained DS3 state. | Workaround: Look at OC3 state as well as DS3 state when using OC3 IO. |
