Introduction

This chapter introduces the AUSM cards that are supported by the PXM1E card in MGX 8850 and MGX 8830 switches. This chapter also describes the features of these cards.

AUSM Card Types

When operating under control of the PXM1E card, the MGX 8850 and MGX 8830 switches support the AUSM cards listed in Table 1-1.

The preferred tools to configure, monitor, and control service modules are the CiscoView and Cisco WAN Manager applications for equipment management and connection management. (The Cisco WAN Manager application is the former Cisco StrataView Plus application with the equipment management removed.) However, the command-line interface (CLI) also provides access the service modules and is highly applicable during initial installation, troubleshooting, and any situation where low-level control is useful.

Summary of AUSM Features

The ATM Universal Service Modules (AUSM) include the following features:

ATM UNI with high port-density for the CPE—with AUSMs in all 24 service module slots, an MGX 8850 shelf can support up to 192 individual T1 or E1 lines. An individual card set can support 1000 data connections and 16 management connections.
Inverse multiplexing for ATM (IMA) that complies with ATM Forum v1.0 and interoperates with v1.1—the 8-port AUSM can provide N x T1 or N x E1 logical ports up to maximum rates of 12 Mbps for T1 or 16 Mbps for E1.

Class of service—CBR, ABR, non-real-time VBR, real-time VBR, and UBR with per-VC queuing on ingress and multiple class of service queues on egress. ABR includes support of both ForeSight ABR and standard ABR (TM 4.0 compliant).

Statistics collection.

Virtual path connections (VPCs).

Network synchronization derived from one of its lines.

1:N redundancy through the optional MGX-SRM-3T3/C card.

Automatic card-restore.

SNMP and TFTP to support card and connection management.

Resource partitions for individual network control applications.
