Release Notes for Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)YH4

April 25, 2003

These release notes support Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)YH4. These release notes have been updated as needed to describe new features, memory requirements, hardware support, software platform deferrals, and changes to the microcode or modem code and related documents.

Last Maintenance Release of Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)YH

The last maintenance release of the 12.1(5)YH maintenance release is 12.1(5)YH4. The migration path for customers who need bug fixes for the 12.1(5)YH features is the 12.2(13)T3 release. The 12.2(13)T3 release has the complete feature content of 12.1(5)YH and will eventually reach general deployment (GD).

Contents

These release notes describe the following topics:

Introduction

Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)YH4 is an Early Deployment (ED) release parented to Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)T and supporting the Cisco VG200. This release provides transcoding and conferencing services for the Cisco VG200 platform. The platform and features delivered with this ED release will be incorporated into Cisco IOS 12.3(1)T and subsequent Cisco IOS 12.2(X)T releases.

The following new features are supported on the Cisco VG200 in Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)YH4:

These features are of interest to enterprise customers wishing to deploy IP telephony at branch offices using a centralized Cisco CallManager architecture. Providing transcoding and conferencing services at the branch location reduces the utilization of the WAN connection bandwidth for conference calls and point-to-point Voice over IP (VoIP) calls between the branch location and other on-network locations.

This ED supports Cisco CallManager switchover and switchback to provide survivability in the event the primary Cisco CallManager manager fails at the Enterprise location. This release supports the new NM-HDV-FARM network module and allows the Cisco CallManager administrator to configure the network module to support up to 15 six-party conference calls or up to 60 transcoding sessions. The network module is equipped with two digital signal processor (DSP) SIMMs containing three DSPs each and can be expanded up to a total of five DSP SIMMs.

Note   The maximum number of transcoding sessions supported by one DSP or the number of participants allowed in a conference is reduced when compressed codecs are used. (See the "Limitations of This Release" section on.)

System Requirements

This section describes the system requirements for Cisco IOS Release 12.1 T:

Memory Requirements

At this time, Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)YH4 supports only the Cisco VG200 hardware platform. The Cisco VG200 comes preconfigured with the required memory resources, which include:

Flash memory—8 MB

DRAM memory—32 MB

Determining the Software Version

To determine the version of Cisco IOS software running on a Cisco VG200, log in to the router and enter the show version EXEC command:

router> show version
Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) VG200 Software (vg200-i6s-mz), Version 12.1.5(YH4), RELEASE SOFTWARE

Upgrading to a New Software Release

For general information about upgrading to a new software release, see the product bulletin, Cisco IOS Upgrade Ordering Instructions located on CCO at:

Service & Support: Software Center: Cisco IOS Software: Product Bulletins: Software

Under General System Software Bulletins, click Cisco IOS Upgrade Ordering Instructions, No. 957

Limitations of This Release

The following are some limitations in the functionality of the current release:

New CLI Command: sccp codec

Syntax

[no] sccp codec [g711ulaw | g711alaw | g729r8 | g729ar8 | g729br8

g729abr8 | gsmfr | gsmefr] mask

Description

This new CLI command is used to force Cisco Call Manager to select the codec types which are used by the endpoints, not the codec types which are masked.

By default, none of the codec types are masked. The no form of this command will unmask the specified codec types so they are reported during registration.

Note   The change caused by this command takes effect only after the sccp is enabled. If the change is caused while sccp is up and running, sccp should be disabled and then enabled for the change to take effect.

Bug Fixes

The following reported bugs have been fixed or resolved in Cisco IOS Release 12.1(5)YH4:

Caveats

Caveats describe unexpected behavior or defects in Cisco IOS software releases. Severity 1 caveats are the most serious caveats; severity 2 caveats are less serious, and severity 3 and severity 4 caveats are still less serious.

For a list of bugs that have been resolved in this release, see the "Bug Fixes" section.

CSCdu12495

This does not affect the functionality of the conference or transcoding applications. However, once DSP resources are all allocated the next session creation will fail.

CSCdu60270

When a GSM FR party is brought into an ad hoc conference, the endpoint will fail to get into the conference. This will not affect meet-me conferences.

Cisco IOS Software Documentation Set

The Cisco IOS software documentation set consists of the Cisco IOS configuration guides, Cisco IOS command references, and several other supporting documents which are shipped with your order in electronic form on the Documentation CD-ROM—unless you specifically ordered the printed versions.

Documentation Modules

Each module in the Cisco IOS documentation set consists of two books: a configuration guide and a corresponding command reference. Chapters in a configuration guide describe protocols, configuration tasks, Cisco IOS software functionality, and contain comprehensive configuration examples. Chapters in a command reference provide complete command syntax information. Use each configuration guide with its corresponding command reference.

On CCO and the Documentation CD-ROM, master hot-linked documents provide information for the Cisco IOS software documentation set.
