Table 1 lists the browsers required to access the VPS 1100 desktop.

Table 1   VPS 1100 Client Requirements for Windows NT and Windows 2000

Browsers

Netscape Navigator 4.6.1 or 4.7

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or 5.01
JVM version 5.0.0.3167

Table 2 lists the products that you must have installed on your network in order to install and use URT.

Table 2   Network Requirements for URT

Required Item Requirements Notes

DHCP Server

Any standards-compliant dynamic host control protocol (DHCP) server should work. URT has been tested with:

  • Microsoft DHCP Server
  • Cisco Network Registrar

The DHCP server is required so that users can obtain a dynamically generated IP address that belongs to the correct VLAN.

Clients must use DHCP in order to use the URT client module.

Domain Server

Any of these:

  • Windows 2000 with WINS enabled
  • Windows NT Server 4.0 with WINS enabled
  • Novell NetWare 5.0 running the IP stack with the ZENworks Starter Pack

You can use all three types of domain servers. The Microsoft Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) server must be enabled on the domain server when the domain server is Windows NT or Windows 2000. WINS is required to resolve domain names to their dynamically generated IP addresses.

Table 3 lists hardware and software required for installing and using URT.

Table 3   Hardware and Software Requirements for URT

URT Element Requirement Notes

URT Administrative Server and Administrative Client Interface

  • Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1 or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6a
  • 10 MB disk space
  • Netscape Navigator version 4 or higher, or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 or higher, is required for viewing the online help
  • A monitor with 1024x768 color resolution with at least 256 colors.

Although URT functions independently, the addition of CiscoWorks2000 streamlines the process of adding network information to URT.

URT VPS Server

VLAN Policy Server 1100 Series

The VPS 1100 must be installed and configured correctly.

See Table 4.

URT Client Module

Any of these:

  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98
  • Windows Millennium Edition
  • Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6a
  • Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1

Clients must be running:

  • TCP/IP using DHCP to obtain IP addresses. You must use TCP/IP; you cannot use only IPX or NetBIOS.
  • At least one of these:
    • Windows Networking (NetBIOS or Client for Microsoft Networks).
    • Novell NetWare Client 4.6 (or later) for Windows NT clients.
    • Novell NetWare Client 3.0.1 (or later) for Windows 95 or Windows 98 clients.
