Uninstalling URT

To uninstall URT from your network:

Step 1   Redirect Switches to Use a Switch-Based VMPS Server

Step 2   Uninstall the URT Client Service from All Machines

Step 3   Remove Changes to the Domain Controller's Logon Script

Step 4   Uninstall the CWSI Upgrade and URT Management Interface

Step 5   Uninstall the URT Servers

Redirect Switches to Use a Switch-Based VMPS Server

Because the URT server is used as a VMPS server by the switches on your network, you must change the VMPS configuration on your switches before removing URT from your network. If you do not do this step first, users on your network will not be able to successfully connect to your network.

You can update the VMPS configuration on the switches using the switch's commands or by using URT. The following procedure assumes you are using URT.

Before You Begin

Configure the VMPS servers on the switches before configuring other switches to use them. See the documentation for your switch for information on configuring VMPS servers.

Procedure

Step 1   In the URT folder pane, open the Switches folder in the folder for a VTP domain.

Step 2   Select the switches that you want to reconfigure. If you select more than one switch, all selected switches are configured to use the same primary and secondary VMPS servers.

Step 3   Click the Configure VMPS on Switches button, or select Configure>Configure VMPS.

Step 4   In the VMPS Configuration Dialog window, enter IP addresses for the first, second, and third VMPS server, and select whether the switch should use the server as a Primary or Secondary server. These VMPS servers must reside on switches.

Step 5   Click Set VMPS on Switches in the VMPS Configuration Dialog window.

Tips

Uninstall the URT Client Service from All Machines

Uninstall the URT client service from the network before you uninstall the URT management interface. Leaving the URT client service on the workstations should not affect the functioning of the workstations, but it will consume a small amount of system resources unnecessarily.

The client service uninstall process differs depending on the operating system and type of networking used on the workstation. This procedure covers all types of clients.

Procedure

Step 1   Edit urt.bat in the NETLOGON folder on each primary domain controller or NetWare server, and add -remove to the onoffhandler command. Look towards the bottom of the file to find this command. This is an example of the urt.bat file:

@echo off
if "%OS%" == "Windows_NT" goto urt_NT
if NOT EXIST %WINDIR%\onoffhandler.exe copy \\%1\sys\public\urt\URT95SVC.EXE %WINDIR% > NUL
if NOT EXIST %WINDIR%\URT95SVC.EXE copy \\%1\sys\public\urt\URT95SVC.EXE %WINDIR% > NUL
if NOT EXIST %WINDIR%\urt\NUL mkdir %WINDIR%\urt > NUL
if NOT EXIST %WINDIR%\urt\IPCONFIG.EXE copy \\%1\sys\public\urt\IPCONFIG.EXE %WINDIR%\urt > NUL
if NOT EXIST %WINDIR%\urt\MSVCRT.DLL copy \\%1\sys\public\urt\MSVCRT.DLL %WINDIR%\urt > NUL
if NOT EXIST %WINDIR%\onoffhandler.EXE copy \\%1\sys\public\urt\ONOFFHANDLER.EXE %WINDIR% > NUL
:urt_NT
%WINDIR%\onoffhandler -domain JK-TREE -addr 10.10.10.5.15001; -ipacquire true -nds -remove

Step 2   Restart all Windows 95 and Windows 98 machines (that is, all Windows 95 and Windows 98 machines from which you want to remove the URT client service). Log into the network from each machine. The onoffhandler command uninstalls the service from these clients.

Step 3   Log into the machine that is running the URT management interface. Your NT account must have Administrator privileges on all NT domains that contain Windows NT machines running the URT client service.

If you do not have this type of account, you must at least have an Administrator account on all NT domains. When you uninstall the service on an NT domain, you are prompted for the user name and password if your existing user account does not have Administrator authority on the domain.

Step 4   Start URT.

Step 5   Select the NT Hosts item in the folder for an NT domain in the URT folder pane (left-hand pane).

Step 6   Select Configure>Uninstall Client Service.

URT uninstalls the service on all the listed clients and opens a log window so that you can follow the status of the uninstallation.

Step 7   Run Application Launcher (NAL) on a NetWare client. You must have administrator or admin-equivalent authority to uninstall the URT client service on computers defined in the NDS directory tree.

Step 8   In NAL, double-click the NWAdmin32 application.

The NDS directory tree is displayed in the NWAdmin32 application.

Step 9   Double-click the WINNT Workstation Package in the NDS directory tree.

Step 10   In the WINNT Workstation Package, click Add Action.

Step 11   In Create Schedule Action, enter a meaningful name for the action (for example, "Uninstall URT") and click Create.

Step 12   Select the newly-created action and click Details:

(a). In Scheduled Action, click Details.

(b). Select the General tab, and select these characteristics (allowing the others to default):

Priority—Normal

Impersonation—System

(c). Select the Items tab, and click Add. Then, enter the file name of the URT client uninstallation program in this format:

\\Novellserver\sys\public\urt\UrtClientUninstall.bat

Novellserver is the name of the server where you install the URT logon script. URT installs the client installation and uninstallation program on the server when the script is installed.

(d). Select the Schedule tab, and select User Login for Event.

(e). Select the Advanced tab, and check Disable action after completion.

These settings will result in the URT client being uninstalled the next time the user logs into the NetWare domain.

Make sure that you delete or disable the Install URT item, so that the clients do not subsequently reinstall the URT client. See the Novell ZEN Works documentation for more information on uninstalling software from NetWare clients.

Tips

Remove Changes to the Domain Controller's Logon Script

You must update the logon script on the domain controllers for all NT domains or NDS Directories that you added to URT so that user logons are not directed to the URT servers.

Procedure

Step 1   Edit the logon script in the NT domain controller's NETLOGON directory, or on the NetWare server. Remove the call to run urt.bat.

Step 2   Delete the urt.bat file. This is in the same directory as the logon script.

Tips

Uninstall the CWSI Upgrade and URT Management Interface

You must uninstall the CWSI upgrade package in order to return the UserTracking application to its full capabilities (URT affects what you can do with UserTracking). Uninstalling the CWSI upgrade also uninstalls the URT management interface.

Procedure

Step 1   Stop the ANI server process using Resource Manager Essentials.

Step 2   Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel by selecting Start>Settings>Control Panel, and then double-clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon.

Step 3   Select CWSI 2.3 URT Upgrade in the list on the Install/Uninstall tab.

Step 4   Click Add/Remove, and follow the instructions.

Step 5   When the uninstallation is complete, restart the ANI server using Resource Manager Essentials.

Uninstall the URT Servers

Before you uninstall the URT servers, make sure you have updated any switches that use the server as a VMPS server, and directed them to use another VMPS server.

Procedure

Step 1   Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel by selecting Start>Settings>Control Panel, and then double-clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon.

Step 2   Select URT 1.2 in the list on the Install/Uninstall tab.

Step 3   Click Add/Remove, and follow the instructions.
