Activating and Suspending Servers with CiscoWorks Hosting Solution Software 1.9, Update 1
Revised: March 10, 2006, OL-10025-01This document applies to CiscoWorks Hosting Solution Engine appliances and other servers running Hosting Solution Software (HSS) 1.9, Update 1. To download this update, see Cisco.com.
Overview
Hosting Solution Software 1.9, Update 1 includes the following changes to the user interface:
•Optional new fields in Activate/Suspend that clarify server suspension actions—See Suspending Servers.
•An administrative option that specifies the workflow to be used when suspending servers—See Configuring Suspension Options.
Suspending Servers
When suspending servers, it is important to understand the commands sent to the affected devices. This section describes the suspend options and the commands sent when using HSE 1.9 and when using HSE 1.9, Update 1.
Using Hosting Solution Software 1.9
When using HSS 1.9, use this procedure to suspend servers.
Procedure
Step 1 Select Configure > Activate Real.
Step 2 Select the check box next to each server or service to be suspended.
Step 3 Click Suspend. A window listing the selected servers appears.
Step 4 In the Reason field, enter the reason for this action. Do not enter a password in this field.
Step 5 Select the Clear Connections check box to clear the existing connections to this device as part of the shutdown process.
Step 6 Click Apply to suspend the selected items. A window appears that lists the selected items and the success or failure of the suspension operation for each item.
Step 7 Click Done. The Server Activate/Suspend window appears with the updated information.
The command sent to the device depends on the type of device selected and whether the user selected the Clear Connections option. See Table 1 for the available options and the commands sent to the devices.
In this implementation, complete CSS suspension requires the user to perform two suspend operations:
•The first suspension issues the weight 0 command.
•The second suspension, issued after connection levels have dropped, actually suspends the device.
Using Hosting Solution Software 1.9, Update 1
With HSS 1.9, Update 1 you can optionally use this procedure to suspend servers.
Note This feature must be enabled by the administrator before this option is available. See Configuring Suspension Options for information on enabling this option.
Procedure
Step 1 Select Configure > Activate Real.
Step 2 Select the check box next to each server or service to be suspended.
Step 3 Click Suspend. A window listing the selected servers appears.
Step 4 In the Reason field, enter the reason for this action. Do not enter a password in this field.
Step 5 In the Type drop-down list, select the type of suspension to be applied. Table 2 lists the options and their related commands.
Step 6 Click Apply to suspend the selected items. A window appears that lists the selected items and the success or failure of the suspension operation for each item.
Step 7 Click Done. The Server Activate/Suspend window appears with the updated information.
Configuring Suspension Options
HSS 1.9, Update 1 allows administrators to specify the suspend interface that their users access. Use this procedure to implement either the HSS 1.9 or the HSS 1.9, Update 1 suspend options. By default, HSS uses the options included in HSS 1.9.
Procedure
Step 1 Select Administration > Setup > Activation Settings.
Step 2 In the Optional Suspend Workflow drop-down list, select one of the following:
•True—Indicates that the Hosting Solution server is to use the suspend interface options included in HSS 1.9, Update 1.
•False—Indicates that the Hosting Solution server is to use the suspend interface options included in HSS 1.9. This is the default.
Step 3 Click Apply to accept your choice or Reset to return to the original value of this field.
