Cisco EMF Version 3.2 SP 4
Cisco Element Manager November 2002 Upgrade

Cisco EMF v3.2 SP4 (Cisco Element Managers November 2002 Release) is a Cisco Element Manager compatible feature upgrade release for all Cisco EMF v3.2 EMSs and makes a range of features available across all EMSs. It includes the integrations between Cisco Element Managers (CEMS) and CNS/IE2100 and the Resource Management Essentials (RME) product from the CiscoWorks family. This is a "feature upgrade" release meaning that the features are add ons, and binary compatible, with existing deployed and available Cisco EMSs. It provides common interfaces and element management services to applications in the network and service management levels of Cisco Internet OSS.

A large number of bug fixes and minor customer enhancements are included in this release. Please consult Cisco DDTS for full details of bugs and enhancements resolved in this release.

There is no significant impact on EMS scale, even with RME co-resident.

For customers migrating to Cisco EMF v3.2 SP4 from Cisco EMF v3.0 and Cisco EMF v3.1, it is advisable first to be familiar with the feature set of Cisco EMF v3.2.

This document only provides a high-level overview of Cisco EMF installation and startup, and is just one of the documents you should use. For comprehensive installation or upgrade procedures, refer to the Cisco Element Management Framework Release Notes and the Cisco Element Management Framework Installation and Administration Guide.

4 Get a Cisco EMF License

Step 1 Go to the Software Registration page at:
http://cco.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/Software/FormManager/formgenerator.pl

Step 2 Click CEMF Product License.

Step 3 Enter your Contact Information.

Step 4 In the Version number field, choose 3.2.

Step 5 Enter the Product Authorization Key (PAK) number provided on the sleeve of the Cisco EMF product CD-ROM.

Step 6 Enter the hostname of the server where Cisco EMF will be installed.

Step 7 Enter the host ID (a hexadecimal string that identifies the system—not the IP address) of the server where Cisco EMF will be installed.

Note To get the host ID (at the Unix prompt) enter hostid

Step 8 Enter responses to the remaining questions.

Step 9 Click Submit.

To update a Cisco EMF license currently in use, (to extend an evaluation license, or convert an evaluation license to a permanent license), refer to the Cisco Element Management Framework Installation and Administration Guide.

5 Install Cisco EMF Server

Note First install the server (consisting of the server processes and a local client) followed by the client (if necessary). To install the Cisco EMF client, refer to the Cisco EMF Installation and Administration Guide.

Step 1 Log in as superuser (su) to the server where Cisco EMF is to be installed.

Step 2 Insert Cisco EMF CD#1 into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 Enter:
host# cd /cdrom/cdrom0
host# ./cemfinstall

Step 4 Choose Server installation option.

Step 5 Enter a directory for the installation files (default is /opt/cemf). This directory is referred to as <CEMF_ROOT>.

Step 6 Enter a directory for backing up and restoring data (default is /opt/Backup).

Note For best performance, we recommend you install the databases on separate disks, and use RAWFS in certain circumstances. Refer to Chapter 5 in the Cisco EMF Installation and Administration Guide for additional details.

Step 7 Enter the server hostname and server IP address.

Step 8 Configure the ObjectStore option for your installation.

Step 9 Place the transaction log on a different drive from the installation and database files.

Note Do not store the transact.log file in /tmp as a reboot will remove any files in this area.

Step 10 Accept the default DNS domain for your server. Cisco EMF will work on a system without DNS.

Step 11 Enter the full path name of the
Cisco EMF license file.

Step 12 When the installation is complete, cd out of the directory /cdrom/cdrom0 and enter eject.

6 Install Cisco EMF SP4

Note Service Pack 4 is shipped on Cisco EMF CD#2.

Step 1 Insert the Cisco EMF Service Pack 4 CD#2 into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 2 Enter:
host# cd /cdrom/cdrom0
host# ./cemfinstall

Step 3 Choose installation option.

Step 4 cd out of the directory /cdrom/cdrom0 and enter eject.

7 Install the RME Server

Step 1 Decide if you want to run RME co-resident with your EM or on a separate workstation (Sun or PC). RME cannot be co-resident with Cisco EMF on Solaris 2.6.

Step 2 Install CD-One (CiscoWorks2000), choose install option 4

Step 3 Install RME. On Solaris, enter:
# cd /cdrom/cdrom0/
# ./setup.sh
Enter 3 and press Return.
On PC, insert the CD-ROM, the Installer window appears. Click Install. In the Wizard, select the Typical installation.

Note Refer to Installation and Setup Guide for Resource Manager Essentials on Solaris. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/cscowork/ps2073/ps4725/index.html

8 Install RME Add-on

The RME add-on is a separate software package which is installed on top of an existing CiscoWorks 2000 CD-One and RME 3.4 installation.

Step 1 On Solaris, insert Cisco EMF CD#2 and change directory to the cdrom area. Enter cd rme/solaris, then enter ./install.

Step 2 On a PC where CiscoWorks and RME 3.4 are installed, insert Cisco EMF CD#2 and run the rme/windows/setup.exe file.

9 Install Cisco CNS / Cisco EMF Integration Patch

This patch must be installed on the CNS 2100 Series Intelligence Engine. Install CNS patch 1.2.3 first then the Cisco CNS/Cisco EMF Integration patch. The Cisco 2100 Series device must be set-up.

Step 1 Insert Cisco EMF CD#2. In cns/linux directory, list the packages installed on the CNS 2100 Series, enter rpm -qa | grep CSCO. If patch is detected, remove it, enter rpm -e CSCOcnsiepatch-1.0-1 (This is an example.)

Step 2 Copy Linux RPM package file. Note file name and location. From the directory, enter rpm -i CSCOcnsiepatch-1.0-1.i386.rpm (This is an example.) The file name must match the copied file. Restart the web server, enter /sbin/service httpd restart
