This chapter includes the critical, general, and recommended safety precautions for the Cisco ONS 15200 modules.
Warning This system may contain Class I levels of invisible laser radiation according to the Food and Drug Administration Code of Federal Regulations 21CFR1040.10 and Class 3A according to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). These codes state that Class I or Class 3A levels of direct laser radiation are considered an acute hazard to the skin and eyes. |
Warning Use protective glasses such as the Laser-Gard® Green CO2 (LGE Spectacle, LGS Goggle, LWG Wraparound, or LGF Full-View) or an equivalent type of covering equipment with an optical density greater than 2. Eye protection must cover a wavelength of 800 to 1800 nm. See your laser safety officer for more information. |
Warning The ONS 15252 and ONS 15201 are energized with -48 VDC power. |
Warning Follow proper safety procedures when removing modules without switching off the relevant subrack. |
Warning Do not look directly at the optical connector output beams when removing connectors. The beams can cause permanent eye damage. |
People who install, maintain, or operate ONS 15200 equipment should follow standard safety practices for working with electrical wiring and connectors. Installation and maintenance of the ONS 15200 should be performed only by people trained in electrical and laser safety.
Recommended safety precautions, procedures, and rules for working with the ONS 15200 include:
You must read and understand all warning labels before working with the equipment. Figure 1-1 shows the international symbol for laser radiation danger.
