System Requirements

This section describes the system requirements for the Cisco 6500/7600 Series Manager version 2.0.

Server Requirements—Small Deployments

A small deployment consists of a CEMF server monitoring fewer than three Catalyst 6500 series switches or fewer than three Cisco 7600 series Internet Routers, and it requires a Sun Ultra 60 configured as follows:

Solaris 2.6 for CEMF 3.1; Solaris 2.6 or Solaris 8 for CEMF 3.2

17-inch color monitor

Two 9-Gb internal disks

One 9-Gb 10,000 rpm external disk

2-GB memory

Two 440-MHz processors

2-Gb swap

Server Requirements—Large Deployments

A large deployment consists of a CEMF monitoring three or more Catalyst 6500 series switches or three or more Cisco 7600 series Internet Routers, and it requires a Sun Enterprise 450 configured as follows:

Solaris 2.6 for CEMF 3.1; Solaris 2.6 or Solaris 8 for CEMF 3.2

17-inch color monitor

Six 9Gb 10,000 rpm disks on 3Ultra SCSI controllers

4-GB memory

Four 440-MHz processors

2-Gb swap

Note A typical server installation requires 300 MB of free disk space in a file system (for example, /opt). An appropriate amount of free disk space for database files is also required.

Typical Client Requirements

A typical deployment consists of a Sun Ultra 60 configured as follows:

Solaris 2.6 for CEMF 3.1; Solaris 2.6 or Solaris 8 for CEMF 3.2.

17-inch color monitor

One 9-Gb internal disk

256-Mb memory

Two 360-MHz processors

1-Gb swap

Note If you are planning to run graphically intensive applications on this workstation, we recommend that you use a Sun color card (for example, 24-bit color).

Note Use the Solaris commands swap -s and prtconf to determine the available amount of swap space and RAM on your system.

Supported Software

The Cisco 6500/7600 Series Manager, version 2.0, supports IOS Release 12.1(3a)E3 to Release 12.1(11)E.

Note The Cisco 6500/7600 Series Manager does not support Catalyst 6000 family switches or Cisco 7600 series Internet Routers running Catalyst software.

Determining the Software Version

To determine installed CEMF package names and version numbers, enter this CEMF command:

<CEMF ROOT>/bin/cemf install -show

Note <CEMF ROOT> is the location where the CEMF packages were installed. Typically, the location for <CEMF ROOT> is /opt/cemf.

To determine installed CEMF package names, use the following Solaris command sequence:

pkginfo | grep -v CSCO

To determine the versions of installed CEMF packages, use the following Solaris command:

pkginfo -l <package name>

Note Replace <package name> with the name of the CEMF packages.

Caveats

This section describes known limitations that exist in the Cisco 6500/7600 Series Manager, version 2.0.

Open Caveats in Version 2.0

CSCdu20831

When you use the dialogs to create a new VLAN, EtherChannel, EIGRP, and OSPF objects, the new objects are not automatically added to the object list.

Workaround: To refresh the object list, reselect the correct software after the object has been created.

CSCat12944

This error displays when you select the upgrade package during the installation:

ObjectFileParser: create/delete failure ERROR: Action returned an error.

Workaround: No workaround is necessary because this error message has no negative effects. The package is successfully installed.

CSCat20890

During autodiscovery, the system sets the read/write community strings to the first community string to which a device responds. By default, this configuration is public. The device fails to save any configuration changes while the write community is set to this value. You cannot save configuration changes to autodiscovered devices.

Workaround: To avoid this problem, remove the public community string and add the private community string to the community list in the autodiscovery dialog. Autodiscovery sets both community strings to private so that you can make configuration changes.

To resolve this problem, set the write community to private by using the relevant object configuration dialog for the device.

CSCdt41123

For the Catalyst 6509-NEB chassis, the type attribute on the details tab of the power supply dialog is reported as "other."

Workaround: None.

CSCdu20861

The firmware version attribute on the inventory tab of the supervisor engine dialog is empty for the WS-X6K-SUP1A-MSFC and WS-X6K-S1A-MSFC2 modules.

Workaround: None.

CSCds63601

On releases before Cisco IOS Release 12.1(6)E, the size (bytes) column of the system Flash memory inventory table on the inventory tab of the supervisor engine dialog displays -1 for Flash devices that have been removed from the system.

Workaround: None.

CSCdu20870

Changing the MAC address attribute in the Ethernet interface dialog has no effect. The attribute is read-only, but CEMF cannot display the attribute correctly as read-only.

Workaround: None.

CSCdv74140

stpxSpanningTreePortCostMode always returns short(1)

Workaround: This is a Cisco IOS caveat appeared in Release 12.1. The problem is resolved in Release 12.2 only.

CSCdt32233

STACK-MIB.moduleStandbyStatus always returns "other." Cisco IOS caveat CSCdt54959 has been resolved in Cisco IOS Release 12.1(8a)EX and above.

Workaround: Upgrade Cisco IOS software—no other workaround is available.

CSCdw56690

You cannot configure attributes on the syslog dialog for multiple devices at the same time.

Workaround: Configure the attributes for each device individually.

CSCdw56741

The Queue Length attribute on the Ethernet Interface dialog reflects the maximum value interface queue and not the configured value.

Workaround: None.

CSCdw56749

If the device is not the STP root and you change the Root Preference to primary, the Set Root action reports an error.

Workaround: Set the STP root of the device using the command-line interface.

CSCdw56753

The IP/Netmask does not show on the EtherChannel dialog if it is set from a Cisco IOS command.

Workaround: None.

CSCdw56755

Units on the Burst and Max Burst attributes in the Classes tab of the QoS Policy Map dialog are incorrect. They should state "bytes" instead of "bits/sec."

Workaround: None.

CSCdw72445

When you open the performance tool for a chassis supervisor engine/interface, this error message might display: "This object has no attributes which are being monitored."

Workaround: Verify that the file is unloaded by entering the /opt/cemf/bin/cemf shell command followed by the /opt/cemf/bin/historyAdmin list command. You should see three entries for the C6576MChassisPerformanceCriteria, the C6576MSupervisorPerformanceCriteria, and the C6576MInterfacePerformanceCriteria. If these are not present, either enter the /opt/cemf/bin/historyAdmin add command or the /opt/cemf/config/dataload/historyCriteria/C6576MManager.AttributeHistory command or stop and start the CEMF.
